So you are really just trying to pick a problem out of nowhere? You tell me which pc in 2024 doesn't have a graphics card or integrated graphics in their system? Your so called GPU acceleration is important is a moot point because ALL modern pc have GPU capabilities or iGPU capabilities. GPU acceleration or whatever you want to call it is not an important consideration because of this fact. You are just trying to defend your theory that GPU acceleration is more important than you make it sound like. The more important consideration is the CPU. You are the one spreading misinformation saying GPU acceleration is crucial to video editing. Do you even edit 4k videos to make such a claim or you just hearsay? Did TS say he wants to edit 4k videos? FYI if your hardware is not capable of editing 4k native smoothly, you can edit with downsized version of the 4k video and then render it in 4k. Then you won't need your so called powerful GPU acceleration to help you edit videos in 4k60fps.
You trying to be a moral justice warrior now? Saying that I recommend something beyond his budget is toxic? I'm just giving my opinion based on my knowledge and experience. It is up to him to listen to all pov and decide what he wants to do. I didn't say my opinion is the best and he should follow my opinion. Moreover, budget are not strict limits to follow and $300 to $500 extra to pay on top of it for something that is part of your job is not alot to pay. If you have troubles coming up with $300 to $500 you got bigger problems.
I'm genuinely wanting to help you understand why high end CPU is so important in professional video editing but you are just stuck in your mindset it is not important and GPU acceleration is crucial... Whatever you say la.
It is not wrong factually.. because the fact that you can't edit high-bitrate 4K videos without using GPU acceleration is still true even till today with something like a 13900k, and even if you use proxy aka downsize. It's not incorrect to say that GPU acceleration is crucial because with 4K high-bitrate footage, there will be lag until editing becomes impossible without it. I read this thread earlier today where the creator of post mentioned intending to do 4K editing, so it's correct to prioritize setting up GPU acceleration correctly as the top priority. Additionally, if I'm not mistaken, the 4000 series supports more codecs than the 3000 series, so it makes sense to opt for a 4000 card over a 3000 one. If you're on a budget, you can still do 4k editing with a mid-range CPU like me as they are quite powerful these days. If I record in a non-supported codec for acceleration in 4K, it won't even be editable which just goes to show how much of a difference it makes. We're no longer in an era where CPUs still perform poorly that the process of video editing becomes heavily impacted, any extreme and consistent lag is most likely not the hardware problem but video editing and codec not compatible or properly configured to use hardware acceleration. You could use a 12 13 14 i7 gen processor and all will do fine honestly, just that without GPU acceleration you literally can't do anything in a 4k high bit rare footage, and with it you can actually get to work which just goes to show how important it is and it's the reason why davinci resolve include gpu decoding in their paid version but not free. If you are coming from a decade ago I would understand but nowadays many CPUs are very competent for video editing so the biggest thing that can hurt your editing experience isn't the CPU but hardware acceleration support. In layman terms, If you get good CPU but try edit extreme high bit rate video without hardware acceleration support you are still screwed. It was explained in tech terms, but not that hard to be understood since I experienced it myself.
