Anyone is also using the StarHub UltraSpeed (10Gbps)? I am so frustrated. (Solved by upgrading ONR firmware.)

No Worry la as SH is aware of the situation. I was told that everyone is having the same slow speed as me during peak hours. My speed is very low now but I do not need to worry as on 17 July newspaper wrote that Major ISPs have applied for the grant with their detailed plan on the upgrade of their backend equipment. It is just a matter of time that the issue will be resolved. I think December we should hear some good news. Once confirmed upgrade, SH will inform me. Now just relax and wait for it to happen la.

There is still not much drop on the MR side (with 3 layers of switch in between) after running my pfsense for >150days. Maybe time to jump ship and make your browser load faster again? :ROFLMAO: (just kidding)

It look like capacity issue during Peak hours as my speed test is only 2Gbps but now it is 7Gbps+ and if this is router spoilt then it can not be only during peak hours and back to normal after peak hours. If i am to change to ONT and TP-Link router now then next year very soon i will be able to recon then will be getting another router again will be creating another waste. Better to Tahan a few more month to monitor the situation and that is why we are holding back.

Okay, this is good reasoning.

On the other hand, not asking you to upgrade but I still suspect that good router may help during the peak hours, based on the reports from brother @TanKianW.

Something like this: I know this does not sounds correct, just my guess only. And EB810v is NOT a good router anyway.
Good routers got the better chance to grab the available bandwidth. Bad routers will get less chance and will be more likely slow download speed during peak hours.

My kids are cussing me, they said internet having lags playing FPS games, and true, I ping cloudflare non-stop via wifi, and every 10-15mins will have no connection and I had to reconnect wifi.

Tried all solution, like fixed wifi channel, switch off MLO, still same.
I don't have these problems when on 1Gbps plan.

Not sure if it's router or the broadband itself, the logging system on TP-Link not detailed.

Since wired no issue, I suspect router.

Sent from my friend's mobile phone.

In this particular instance, I actually think your Nokia ONR is the culprit, as the upload speed is quite okay.

Maybe you want to discuss with your wife again and change to ONT plus EB810v.
If use 100Gbps OLT with the same 24 ports for 24 household ONT and say 50% are 10Gbps users and 50% are 1Gbps users then sharing the bandwidth, each household only get 7Gbps only. If everyone sign up 10 Gbps then the capacity issue will be back again. Hopefully SH upgrade to 200 Gbps OLT la

Yes and the TP-Link router is like entry level wifi 7 router but compared to earlier wifi 5 and 6 router still ok. I try to suggest SH to offer just ONT then user can buy their own router then SH will not get blame for it. Then user can buy anything they need. Now SH never give user the option to buy their own router.

Limitation?
Disconnection every 10-15min is not limitation, it is a big issue.

Imagine you to work from home, connect to VPN to office, and this disconnection MAY disconnect you from your office network so frequently, its so disruptive.

Any lemon law on broadband subscription?

You do realise the real bottleneck is the PON ports right? There's max 24 people sharing the same 10Gbps per XGS-PON port.

Not an expert here but supposedly TDMA is used and this should not be the limit. So I do not think what you say is right. The OLT uplink may be the first real limit, then there are other limit up the signal chain.

https://www.cablelabs.com/blog/10g-epon-vs-xgs-pon
In both 10G-EPON and XGS-PON, a scheme called Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is used to share the fiber’s upstream resource. In this scheme, each user (the ONU at the user’s premises) is granted a share of time during which they are allowed to transmit data. At all other times, the user is “silent” while other users transmit data.

This is not true. I'm using ONT. Upload is consistent at 6-7gbps. Download is the one I get issues - down to 1.8gbps during peak hours.

Same issue here. Will probably swap out the EB810v eventually

I think it's just the messaging that is bad. I don't see anywhere that they said the 50% discount is due to such issues. Also, I subscribed after the 10gbps came out of trial mode. Plus they launched 5gbps plan after this.

That is a good move. In general I do not recommend TP-Link service provider models. I guess people do not have many choices as of now if they want 10G capable WiFi 7 routers. EB810v/HB810 and Archer BE805 are the three cheapers ones. Only Archer BE805 is the only one not belonging to the service provider model.

Then the better ones like Asus ROG GT-BE98 is pretty expensive. Ubiquiti UDM SE + U7 Pro is also expensive.

buy your own equipment loh

that's why i don't use the gear given by ISPs, they usually give crap

Indeed.
1. Even if the user accept that 6Gbps speed for the plan, the problem is that it drops below 2Gbps during peak hours...

2. 50% discount is kind of not clear. Maybe you want to check your contract to see if it is mentioned there.

1) For example, Starhub website does not seem to indicate it is 50% discount.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/store/broadband/browse/products/ultraspeed-wifi-7_UltraSpeed.html
24-month
UltraSpeed 10Gbps with WiFi 7 router
$69.95 per month

1 Free TP –Link EB810V WiFi 7 router with Optical Network Terminal
Disney+ Standard on us for 12 months and Amazon Prime on us for 3 months
Enjoy free installation & advise on the best router placement for optimum wifi experience

2) same for MR, no mentioning of usual price.
https://myrepublic.net/sg/10gbps/

3) For Singtel, it is clear that there is a discount as there is a "Usual Price". I am not saying Singtel 10Gbps plan is better though due to the use of ONR.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/10gbps

10Gbps Enhanced Plan with WiFi 7 Router at $79/mth (U.P. $139/mth)
Comes with XGS-PON Optical Network Router + 1 unit TP-Link BE22000 WiFi 7 Router

[NEW] 10Gbps Enhanced Mesh Plan WiFi 7 at $89.80/mth (U.P $172.60/mth)
Comes with XGS-PON Optical Network Router + 2 units of TP-Link BE220000 WiFi 7 Router

4) For VQ it is also clear with the usual price listed and discount is S$240.

Referring to the conversation on 28 July 2024 and your feedback to IMDA.

This is to address your concerns regarding your Ultraspeed internet service. Based on our network backend team's assessment and feedback from our vendor, we would like to provide our findings:

According to our vendor, achieving a speed of 6-7Gbps is considered a good result. It is not always feasible to maintain a perfect speed of 7-8Gbps due to the shared 40G bandwidth among all users at the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and the limited Bandwidth Network Gateway (BNG) router bandwidth.

We have shared with you that the Ultraspeed service is already offered at a 50% discount. You may refer to the terms and conditions for a detailed understanding of the factors affecting speed tests.

Given that the current speed you are achieving is considered decent and satisfactory according to our vendor, we regret to inform you that we are unable to provide further assistance on this matter.

Meanwhile, we wish to assure you that we are continuously working to improve the Ultraspeed connection, similar to how 5G mobile network coverage has expanded and improved since its launch.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the lack of communication over the past four months. The delay was to ensure all necessary processes were properly followed. We appreciate your acknowledgment and agreement to close this case.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

I wrote " It will be better for SH to go greener by offering recontract at a lower price without the TP-Link router . . . . . . . . . . . ." I just hope SH will make it happen la. Then we can go for ASUS router la. Better router is better. For Homehub+ UltraSpeed they mentioned U.P. $221.94.

HomeHub+ UltraSpeed

$110.97

per month with 24-month contract (U.P. $221.94)
For new broadband and TV sign ups.

Same as me, SH told me all having the same slow speed during peak hours. I think just wait for the upgrade and see how it is. I believe this time Starhub will do a good upgrade for us. Then we can buy our own high end router if we want it. Just relax and wait for it to happen la.
