I believe your main interests in Homehub+ UltraSpeed bundle is the contents and not the 10Gbps internet, in that case, it is perfectly fine to use the 10Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps or even 1Gbps plan.

The problem is more and more people signed up 10Gbps plan and keep downloading big files. If all the users do not care to surf the internet then we will be ok during peak hours.

I think what we're seeing at peak times we'd have seen even without 10g. My guess is more that as a business, your local POP/network is going to be capacity planned around new users - so when the max speed was only 1-2g, 1x new user wouldn't require as much buffer/planning as 1x new 10g user, so whilst its likely the local network will have better capacity to support the average and spikes in traffic, its still not going to have tons of over-provisioned capacity because they won't have dedicated 10g for each user just sat there waiting to be used. Then as peak-time comes around, their average use goes higher, so less capacity even locally (hence even local speedtest goes down).

But IMO local traffic isn't really the main issue - sure they can offload a lot of local mirror content (Netflix etc) but there is no way their upstream/transit links are being provisioned with 100's of gigabit spare just in case their 10g users want to download at 10g 24x7. Even if they had the capacity, they can't allocate 10g transit dedicated to 1 user - it's just not feasible - you're not a business customer with an SLA, so you compete to average out that residential use. I'd bet their transit links are hitting almost 99% of their budgeted capacity at peak when averaged out.

When the local network gets an upgrade, sure we'll see local speedtest go up - but so what, congrats we got a higher number... I guess we win the internet?

SIMBA S$20 plan is actaully S$21.80 plan and they need to pay for ONT and NLT charges, the real cost is much higher in reality.

It is not clear what will happen to the existing SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan at S$21.80 users after 12months contract. Need to wait for the answer in SIMBA thread. I tend to think they may be upgraded to the S$29.99 10Gbps plan if that is available island wide at that time. If not I am not sure if they can keep the S$21.80 per month pricing or not.

Actually the expert says well in the Straits Times report. In the end, I think it is good that the Government is spending the money to boost the network infrasture to prepare for the future. Take note it is the "future". Singapore will have to wait for at least part of the more advanced world (like US, China, Japan and South Korea, etc) to have more use cases for 10Gbps.

No problem. I just need to continue my resarch how the ISP's access network works (mainly OLT/ONT).

The Cisco documentation pretty much sums it up. If you still could not find the exact answer to your question, some other places to look out for is probably from Huawei (likely in Chinese) and Alcatel since they are involved in quite a number of ISP fiber (distribution) infrastructure.

Another area (field) to look for will be research papers on how fiber optics and laser transfer works in today's networking over long range, and how data frames are encapsulated, transmitted and received. IEEE also provide lots of good reading material/papers too. I remember reading quite a number of them when involved in a recent subsea cabling project.

Do not need to worry about overseas speed as there are many new undersea cables coming up. See my speed at least 5Gbps+ to japan with no packet loss at all and good ping which is good.

It will be better to have an application that minimize bandwidth requirement so that mobile phone users can use it and it helps to save data usage and prevent internet traffic congestion. We should expand our capacity and at the same time use app that save bandwidth then we will be very happy online as we have much more bandwidth available. Now Peak Hours is demand more than supply so internet traffic congestion causing us to slow down.

I think can still get Netflix and Disney+ if talk to them. Good deal. Now still can watch other football matches like UEFA Champions League matches usually in the middle of the night. 18 months can recon. 6 months of $85/mth. Can try to call them again and say got friend also sign up and get the ONT only so you asking for it. I email them to ask for earlier recon and got the offer too. I also can change to ONT but i am not going to rush for it. As more ISP will offer 10 Gbps soon. I suggested offer without router to go greener and avoid wastage. After the installer gone, then plug in your own router also can.

I requested for ONT, but the CSO mentioned that I will need to top up 15/mth for the TPlink router. I do not want additional cost, so she said it’s ok not to have it in my package.

If just take ONT then no extra cost and no point take TP-Link Router if you do not have 10Gbps devices or wifi 7 devices at home. I also got the offer to change to ONT and this router at $15/mth and earlier recon to $110 to get the ONT and TP-Link router. I am holding on to their offer.

Do not need to bang table, just ask for it at their Starhub Shop. Just friend got it so i am interested to ask for it too. I said i read hardwarezone and then the shop said ok and must pay $15 per month for the TP-Link Router. Then i said let me think about it and get back if i am confirmed. Then the staff note it down and said anytime i want to get it can just come down or call them.
