Anyone is also using the StarHub UltraSpeed (10Gbps)? I am so frustrated. (Solved by upgrading ONR firmware.)

correct me if i'm wrong:s22:...

if you want port-forwarding, but ISP using CGNAT, i think what people shared over here is to use Tailscale. how to implement? i don't know, because i never try before. but can research on 'Google' or 'Youtube'

if ISP using static IP, or dynamic Public IP, can easily port-forwarding... (also, better to use ONT:s42:)

after weeks of SH replacing the power adapter for my ONR, the usual problems are back again.
1. connectivity drops during high peak periods - netflix laggy, no subtitles, overall internet speed is slow. happens on friday and saturday nights the most.
2. intermittent disconnection - happens randomly, but somehow always happen when im in a midst of a call. DC for about 3-7 mins before connection is back

quite lazy to call SH at this point. anyone managed to resolve this?
Folks on the ONT, do u experience the same?

i presume your ONR is considered faulty already...

reason being is, when i first subscribed to SH, the given ONT was behaving weirdly...
  1. when i make/receive calls from my Home Digital Line, my ONT will restart by itselt. and from there, my Internet connection is disrupted
called SH Customer hotline and told them about my issue, the Hub Tropper came over and 1-to-1 exchanged my ONT. from there, everything's back to normal...

After browsing around in this forum, I found it very difficult to get technical information, all i got was vague answers and maybe..

I was quite keen to sign up for 10Gbps, but I really need port forwarding for my remote access to my NAS.

All answers, i got is Simba 10Gbps need Tailscale to emulate port forwarding, but only few ports (<=5)
Starhub come with either ONR (which is not port-forward friendly), and some in ONT, which I was quite confused with vague replies if port forwarding is possible.

Simba is cheap, I could configure in-between miniPC server with docker to do port-forwarding features.
But is expensive Starhub ONT 10Gbps really a true dedicated ipv4 (not-cgnat)?

I appreciate if some techies could give me some professional insights.
YOu can do the same port forwarding with Starhub 10GB. I am doing it now without any issues.

Thanks for your input

I had got port forwarding info from other credible local source.
Called up 1630 (sales) and route to their technical dept (not-1633) for double confirmation.
Other smaller telco also had addon for static ip for port forwarding.

Simba fibre 10Gbps, yes very cheap, but this CGNAT required too much efforts to achieve port-forwarding, via tools/utilities, for IoT, the best option is OpenWRT in compatible router with WireGuard plugins.

By early August I will be on Ultraspeed 10Gbps, now looking for cheap offers on second router in Carousell for ethernet backhaul Easymesh.
I had already placed taobao orders for aircool 10G switch, SFP+ multiple-mode modules, and LC-LC cables and connectors and faceplates. Future-proof network infra for room-to-room.

Can call Starhub 1633 to ask for ONT and buy their TP-LinK router at $360. For me just slow during peak hours and nothing serious.

I can't find the info for some weird reason.

Does anyone know what StarHub's DNS server addresses are? I replaced the stupid TP Link big buggy 10Gbps box with a 2.5Gbps OpnSense box, and forgot what the DNS servers were for the StarHub TV+ box to work properly.

As a placeholder, I've found that using 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 works for the StarHub TV+ box, if anyone is looking for this info.

It's not a downgrade if even my elderly father can come to me to ask why the internet is so laggy.

It's not about the supposed high end features of the "router" or how big it is - it's how it performs. And if elderly people can tell you that the older hardware performed better, that's the main difference between proper network gear and consumer network gear. One day with the TP-Link EB810v on default settings, and even he can tell it's laggy and poor performing.

Went back to OpnSense, on a 2.5Gbps router for now. When prices improve on 10Gb equipment, will consider deploying accordingly. As far as my family is concerned, based on feel of network responsiveness alone, it's an upgrade to them.

Just following up, for those who may not know how to specify a specific DNS server for one device (the StarHub TV+ box) at the DHCP level without affecting the rest of your network or having to configure devices separately.

pfSense, OpnSense, and Mikrotik allow this basic networking feature. For any other routing platform, feel free to add.

Just signed up for SH 10gbps too, first 2 days everything is good. Thereafter, no internet. The service guy only managed to come 2 days later, and he changed 3 different Nokia ONRs but still the same. Finally, he made a call to his team, not sure to do what, and it works now.

Noob question. Since I turn off the Wifi on the ONR, and connect wire 10gb to my Wifi 7 Eero router. Is it better to ask to change to ONT? Since I just signed up.

Would it make a difference on the Wifi speed that I get from my devices?

You can try to bug Startub until they agree to change the ONR to ONT.

It will not improve your WiFi speed but it may improve the network stability. From the reports here, Nokia XS-2426X-A all-in-one ONR is not so good in terms of stability.

Just need to call 1633 to ask for ONT and buy their TP-Link router. Now rule changed and can change to ONT now. They offer me to change. I hold back as next year I will be able to recontract earlier as they also offer me earlier recon if I want it. I am waiting to see after 10G upgrade how it is during peak hours. No big issue with my internet now.

lol. My internet was literally up for 10 hours and now down again. Same problem. This SH is really pissing me off.

No such problem on the 1g plan. Basically upgrade to get worse service.

No need to pissing as you just need to call 1633 or go down to the shop to ask them to change to ONT with TP-Link router.
