Anyone studying NUS B.tech (Mechanical)

Hi,

Please kindly feedback on the below pointers

- How is the timetable like for this programme if choose to complete in 4 years? i.e how many days do i need to attend classes per week.

- If diploma gpa is above 3.8, can i get in even without 'O'level?

- How many percent is the course fee subsidies by government for Singaporean?

I'm actually planning to apply for this course after completing my part time diploma therefore hope that someone who is under going this programme can clear my doubt.

U customize ur own timetable. So its hard to say.

It will be hard. However you may wanna try under DA or mature applicants.

- How many percent is the course fee subsidies by government for Singaporean?

iirc, it should be 80% for singaporean

So 4 years actually is 2 modules per sem which is 6 modules per year is it?

Why seems like nobody studying in nus part time one....

Hi TS, you might want to check with NUS if they accept part time diploma for admission.

Last i checked they only accept full time local dip. But you can try applying as mature applicant. Requirement is to take SAT I test, 25yrs old amd above with 5 years working exp.

NUS have a list of Poly Dip course that is allow to enter NUS degree course. Eg: Part Time NP DipTech is allow to enter BTech course.

However all part time Poly Dip have change such as course become 2.5 years, name of course is different from past part time Poly Dip course, modules change & you may needs to check if the new part time Poly Dip is allow to enter BTech course.

As per recommended schedule (4 years), you will have 3 mods per normal sem, which will usually equate to 3 lessons per week, not inclusive of lab work yet.

Application wise, ask Btech office. Call them.
Might be tricky with part time dip and no o levels(?)

And someone mentioned relax?
I guess he's not studying this btech course then...lol

i had check with b.tech office and they told me that student with local diploma even without 'o' level may apply also.

Admission test is not compulsory one. If they didn't notify you then either you are accepted and don't need to take the test or they had reject your application.

yup.. im aware. As they mention in the website that they will notify by mid jan, therefore im abit worry and just asking around if anyone receive their email and hopefully i don receive. LOL

BTW rollbread, are u studying in nus b.tech? would like to check whether is it difficult to cope with the studies and how is the timetable like ?

Ya, basically it depends on how many modules you taking for a sem. If this sem take 3 modules then 3 classes per week, if only 2 module then 2 class per week. Each class start from 6-9pm. Sometimes end abit earlier, sometimes later.

So far still ok, I still 1st year so not that difficult yet. But they have a recommended schedule for you to follow. Anyway, i think the admin abit slow and weird. Eg today send me a email to inform tat next wednesday must go there to sign document or to collect card. But its during office hours and i'm not in time to apply for leave so have to change to another date.

If you worry that you can't cope then first sem take 1 or 2 module to try first and see how is the results.

Bro, you also studying mechanical??

Heard from friends studying in NTU that it is very difficult to cope and lecturer usually don't teach much and also won't bother and explain much. So for NUS b.tech, is it also the same? Comparing with diploma, is it very much of a difference?

Btw, do you drive? is there any carpark allocated for park time student and what's the parking rate like?

Sorry for asking you so much question but so far you are the only one i found studying in NUS b.tech. Hope you could help me answer my quires.

I taking IME, not Mechanical. But there are few modules that all courses will have to take together. So far only got one module is a Indian prof who is a very nice guy that is patient and got any question can ask him, but the thing is sometimes I don't quite understand wad he is talking about. For other prof I quite easy to understand them.

But overall I think in terms of explanation is better than Poly lecturers cuz as they are teaching they will give their own examples to help you understand. Difference is during tutorial time, poly lecturer will go through the tutorial questions, but in nus is those teacher assistant who are research or graduate students will go through the tutorial questions and sometimes I also don't understand them.

Surely it will be more difficult then poly cuz here I have to read through the textbook and try out the questions, not like poly where the lecturers will tell u hints and tell you which part to study. I would say that as long as you attend all the lessons and understand them, then shouldn't have any problems.

As for the carpark rates you can find it from the website, there are few carpark rates which are slightly higher. Of cause u can't claim the carpark from the school, cuz got a guy thought tat if he study there then the school will cover the carpark fee.
