Anyone use KVM extenders?

Hi All

I am consider to use KVM extenders to access my computer from another room.
Is this a good idea? Any lag will I encounter?

I wish to have the option to connect HDMI, DVI and usb 2.0 via the KVM extenders.

Usb 3.0, thunderbolt and display port would be something worth considering although its not priority.
