Anyone using ASUS ROG Notebook G551JM-CN183H?

Thinking of getting this model. Anyone using? How's the performance when gaming? Speakers loud enough? Heard that it doesn't have enough bass. I'm quite anal about not having soft speakers. How's the battery life? Heat?

I'm not a hardcore gamer. Need a notebook to carry around for work as well as gaming on at least medium settings for the latest games. 15.6" (17" too heavy to lug around). Chose this model cos of the DDR5 vram, although I don't really need the blu-ray drive.

Was contemplating either this or the earlier model ASUS G56JK-CN143H. Cheaper by abt $200-300, but no SSD, no Blu-ray, 5400rpm HDD instead of 7200rpm, DDR3 vram instead of DDR5, but got 4 USB3.0 ports instead of 3.

i've just submitted a request to purchase the G551JM free upgrade to 16 gb ram at $1898 to my director for approval, hopefully can go through haha.

using it to do some office work + light/medium gaming like BF4 and Diablo 3.

I used for 2-3 weeks. Good laptop so far. No issue at all. Fast load up cos of SSD as cache. Brought at 1898. Played Diablo 3 at ultra setting, Fps at 75-80.
Hopefully will last me 3 years!

How long does the battery last on avg if its just web browsing? Some reviews put it at abt 4 Hrs, if I rmb correctly.

One more difference for G551 is that it has a PCIE slot for SSD upgrade. G56 does not.

Also note that for some brands, the graphics have already transited to GTX965 already.

Are you sure abt extra slot for SSD ? I called Asus, they say no slot. Need to remove my HDD to put on SATA 3 SSD.

haha, my director gave me 2k budget ask me get as good as possible... coz his lenovo x1 cmi... he dun wan me to b like him... hahaha

Yes. Pretty sure about that. Unless there are some special variants of G551 in the market that we do not know off.
As long as your unit is the one with 1TB + 24GB SSD, we can remove the 24GB SSD and change to 128GB SSD.

In particular, at least G551JM-CN183H, we have upgrade for 2 customers already.
As far as we know, only we are ones doing this upgrade for our customers.

The 24gb is Msata slot, not PCIE ya?

Asus don't allow opening of HDD part. Warranty will be void.

Just bought this set last week, so far quite satisfied, the IPS screen is gorgeous!

One question though, the 24GB SSD is it hidden? Can't seem to find the drive letter for it. I wonder how is it being used by the OS since no idea what are the files stored there or how much space left etc.
