thanks i give up liao, just swtich off when not using and no devicies is on 24/7 other then ac and fridge
This is the way.

Singapore’s power supply is very reliable and stable. Surges, sags and brownouts are not really noticeable and I have yet to encounter any of my electronics dying because of this problem

Used to have a UPS for my computer in my previous house as the circuit was tripping occasionally. But cost of owning UPS must factor in:- Initial cost of buying UPS, additional electricity wasted running the UPS & cost of replacing the UPS battery every 1.5-2 years (they’re sealed lead batteries that’s supposed to last “3-5 years” but I have yet to get that kind of mileage, and cost around 40%-50% of the UPS price)

If you’re having power supply tripping issues, get an electrician to come in to check and fix the underlying problem (if you don’t know how to identify and troubleshoot the problem) rather than using an UPS

thanks,
me thought of ups but i view battery is a fire risk even when lead battery is very low .

as you mention still is $$$ to maintain . so in the end just off everything

Frankly, if you live in HDB or condos in Sg, the power supply is stable and not prone to blackouts or brownouts.

But if you stay in landed property, it depends.

Some may not have factored the installation of home EV chargers and additional air-con systems.

Any power supply upgrades tend to expensive many some don't bother.

Then you will need UPS, power conditioners and even backup generators.

It is a mostly rich people problem.

:s12: :ninja:

It depends on what you are doing or need it for.

My case is more about prevention against helper and kids accidentally turning off the power or causing a trip from improper equipment use.

I often run jobs that take anything up to half a day to run. It'd be very annoying to come back home and realized power tripped so the job I expected to be completed needs to be restarted. When I'm overseas, I often VPN home to download/upload data/backups as well as do some misc home IT stuff. So if somebody turns off the wall power to something they shouldn't, the screeching UPS makes it clear they should turn it back on or they would call me.

The only annoying thing is having to replace and rewire the cheaper UPS for my PC every couple of years.

No idea, suspect I run too many high amperage devices. Trip easily
Old hdb block, every heavy rain power trip until sian. I use cheapo prolink ups now
Probably isolated to your own unit.

You need to trace the trip to the exact power point, extension cord and/or device.

Every power distribution box should have a sheet with layout and circuit breaker mapping.

:alien:
Moi early 2000 block also occasionally trip if lightning hit nearby. Even while using only standing fans at home if lightning hit nearby will trip whole house. Not any specific breaker just the "main lever" so push that 1 breaker up for power.

Tbf it's been a while that it happened as it doesn't occurred as much as it used to be, so not sure hdb make changes or lighting never hit close for this period.

Not an issue for moi as only concern is fridge but kinda scared to shower during heavy rain haha

I contacted alot of self proclaimed expert LEW to help me troubleshoot my case but nobody wanted to my money. They seem to be only interested to do simple jobs like change light switches despite what they advertise on their website or show on tiktok.

Typical template reply
"Hello! Thank you for contacting ....

We truly appreciate your interest in our services. Unfortunately, due to our current scheduling, we’re unable to take on new jobs at the moment. We’re really sorry for the inconvenience, and we hope you can reach out to us again in the future — we’d be glad to assist when our schedule opens up.

Thank you for your kind understanding."

Im tripping the one outside my house
Mm I think you should call HDB then to check its health. That is an overload breaker. They do get more sensitive with age and can nuisance trip when user loads are on the high side.

The more important nuance is that the one inside your flat didn’t trip first. In the grand order of things circuits are designed so breakers are tripped from the inside out. The outside breaker sits between supply and your meter and should not trip under normal circumstances. In an overload scenario the overload breaker in your flat should be the one to go first.

Ergo, there is a faulty breaker somewhere, or worse, an intermittent fault between the main incoming and your circuit breaker.

Don’t call the LEW yourself. Outside your door is not your problem.

Haha you would think LEWs will advise you on that. Nope. None of them did lol.

I used to have suspicious power trips only in the afternoon.
After using AI and checking with forums, the cause is probably loose wiring or interference in wires with humidity playing a part in causing this worse.

So I opened the DB in my unit (mains power off), retightened the screws to the MCB and RCB (maximise contact with wire) and tweak the wiring to align them and air gap them as much as possible as they go to each terminal block in the breakers.

The trips completely stop after that.

Maybe you should check your circuit breaker box or have them replaced?
Less than 5years old lol. I have heavy current load. 2 aircon condenser, electric heater, dryer. It's just annoying I have to monitor my device usage to minimise tripping.

Meaning you installed the wrong power wattage of circuit breakers? Get a certified electrician to check and fix it. What is an electric heater?

Not sure how is that even possible when a LEW is suppose to install the circuit breaker and get the plan approved by HDB before even renovation starts. A electric heater is a device using electricity to heat water instead of using gas.

Under normal circumstances not likely. As I said, something is *faulty* if the outside breaker trips before the inside. Either your inside breaker is too insensitive or the outside breaker is too sensitive. Or there is a real intermittent fault between ourside and inside.

Report to HDB. You won’t find an electrician who will work on the outside breaker because they are not allowed to. Their valuable license may be at risk if they mess with it.

That's what I told ts but he just won't get an electrician to check out his circuit breaker...instead he wanted to use what conditioner to fix his issue.

Ts, we called that water heater(gas/electric), not electric heater. You are not the only one that have all the appliances you listed above and most people don't encounter those frequent tripping of electricity like you mentioned. So, something is definitely not right with your home wirings or the circuit breaker. Just get an electrician to check it out. A LEW does not mean he will not make any mistakes...

I also have two aircon compressors, electric water heater, washing machine, a dryer like you. In addition, I got two fridges, two servers running 24/7. House more than 5 years old also don't trip like yours. As others have recommended, get somebody to check the breaker/wiring.
