Had the same error and I think the AMD Catalyst driver installer did a poor job of cleaning up and uninstalling.
AOD driver appears to be part of AMD OverDrive technology.
I did these fixes last night, so far the error no longer appears in my Event Viewer. But do so at your own risk.
Warning: I'm assuming you no longer have any AMD/ATI graphics card installed, so we can safely remove all traces of AOD from your system.
Assuming you're logged in as an administrator:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Click View > Show Hidden Devices in menu.
- Under Non-Plug and Play Drivers, you may see AODDriver4.1, AODDriver 4.01 and AODDriver4.3 etc. or some variants depending on the version.
- Select list entry, right-click and click Uninstall.
- Repeat for other versions of AOD driver found with same problem. (Uninstalled and missing driver files but not removed from registry control set)
- You'll be prompted to reboot. Click Yes or OK to reboot.
- Errors continue to be reported in Event Viewer as system still tries to load the driver on start up. Now we need to use regedit to remove the entries from registry. This I think is the dangerous part.
- Start regedit.
- Search for keys, values and data with "aoddriver"
- Click Edit > Find...
- In Find what textbox, type "aoddriver".
- Ensure Keys, Values and Data are checked.
- Ensure Match whole string only is unchecked.
- Click Find Next button.
- Delete any key found.
- Press F3 to repeat searches and delete until entire registry is searched.
- Restart and check to ensure error no longer occurs in Event Viewer.
It worked for me. Just be careful to do a System Restore point or registry backup before you try.
