Appealing to SIT Digipen. Any advice? :)

I just received my rejection letter from SIT. I'm planning to appeal for the 'BS In Computer Science and Game Design' during the appeal period (26 May to 2 June). My RP is 63 (with MTL) and my grades are CDD/E and GP:C PW:A. I am planning to write my appeal letter as soon as possible and submitting it as soon as the period starts. I would appreciate any advice and tips on how to craft a successful appeal letter.

No I did not All i received was an sms letting me know that the result of my application has been emailed. Does this mean I'll have a slimmer chance of having a successful appeal? D:

This course was my first choice. What is IGP?

don't think so, leadership position like me for his CCA maybe? his GP was B, don't think that has any effect for non-art/law/communication courses

IGP = indicative grade profile where it shows the grades of 10/90th percentile of students accepted the previous year

I really really really tried to squeeze in all my non-academic achievements like CCA leadership positions and competitions etc. and still got rejected D:

What did you get for Math? Was it a D? Of all my grades, the interviewers put the most emphasis on Math, because the course you applied for is computer science, and that means coding.

Did you also mention anything about a passion for game designing or coding in your profile? Or you only mentioned leadership and CCA? Passion for the course is very important. Like personally, I showed the interviewers a dating sim game proposal during the interview. (I didn't actually make the game, I just wrote out the rough storyline, character details and gameplay on google docs.)

Since you didn't get an interview, that's actually good as the interviewers do not have any impression of you (had you gone for it but screwed up the interview would deter them from considering you- they consider appeals by grades + interview performance. I asked.)

Maybe in your appeal, don't put any of that stuff you put in your application. Try to put new information that will coerce the admissions staff into thinking "hey this kid really wants to do this course." and consider your application again.

If you did not get any interview and get rejected ,I can say dun bother appealing. I rmb no interview, they won't bother looking at your appeal.... but only look at those they interviewed before as they are being shortlisted from the huge bunch. But I might be wrong and no harm to appeal anyways

just kinda pissed that they bother to give an interview to my friend with worse grade than me and didn't even bother to call me up for interview, i think it got to do with my order of choices

I got a C for Math.

"The programmes that I have chosen to apply for are mostly by the DigiPen Institute, and they are a leader in game development education. From a young age, I had always enjoyed video games and the very idea of being part of developing a game has always been exciting. The DigiPen Institute in SIT would provide me the skills required for me to reach that achievement. Not only will these courses help me achieve my goal of working in the game development industry, but it also provides opportunities for internships and overseas studies to the top game development companies.
I understand that these courses and career paths are extremely difficult and tedious but I am confident in being able to persevere and overcome these challenges and emerge stronger."

^This was in my personal statement. I guess it wasn't enough to convince them huh.

I guess my appeal letter I should talk more about my passion (thanks for the tip ). Is there anything else I should include? (I'm currently taking up sketching/drawing and self-learning it. Would mentioning it help in my appeal in your opinion? )

Oh no!! haha I'll still appeal I guess, because like you said; no harm in it. But thanks for the info! I won't get my hopes up and think more about my plan B (Which is taking a gap year to build up a portfolio/skills that'll help me with my admission next year)

It was my first choice haha I guess you win some and lose some. Maybe it was his personal statement that really swayed them too. You could always give it another try

Alright first you must know that CSGD does more coding than the art designing (though you still have to do art for the games you make, you won't be penalised for having no drawing skills whatsoever), so don't put too much emphasis in drawing - they'll be more concerned about you coping with learning coding. You should mention you have amateur skills in art, but should also try to at least read up on coding and let them know that you've started doing preparations for entering.

Look at the AY2017-2018 courses you'll be taking in the degree, and the learning outcomes of it. (Would also help you decide between BSGD and BAGD, since you mentioned you've a self-taught skill in art) Looking through the catalogue MIGHT help you draft an appeal Good luck!

YES!!! I've been soooooo torn apart deciding between BAGD and BSGD!!! I guess when I applied with BSGD as my first choice and BAGD as second I figured the coding skills would come more in handy in future getting a job and whatnot (in case i don't score an internship) D: I've been self-learning coding as well online at codeacademy but only simple things like html and css D:

That's a start. Let them know you've been on codeacademy, learning on your own in your appeal (don't need to say how much you've learnt, just that you've taken initiative to.)

That's right, CS is very useful! (Besides, if you realise you can't cope with coding after a year, u can make a switch in majors as BSGD and BAGD do the same-ish modules in first and second sem.)

You can try to mention about how you've started learning c/c++ programming through online self tutorial websites and that you're keen to further yr studies by attending Digipen.

If you're into industry level coding, join BSGD or better yet RTIS. BAGD not so much.

Appealing to SIT Digipen

I received the rejection letter from SIT for the 'BS In Computer Science. I planning to appeal. I also in mind to switch to Electrical Engineering & Information Technology, BSc. My GPA is 3.248 & score Dist & A for all the Math.
What is my chance for appealing?
