Apple Air Port time capsule

Plan to change my router to air port time capsule 2TB model, but have some question need your advise

1. can I power off the time capsule on night time? when nobody access to the harddisk. Currently, I power off the router everyday when never use it, time capsule can do so?

2. Can access the harddisk data from any where using other network or 4G?

3. time capsule can buy apple care?

4. any problem access from windows 8 PC and android phone?

I have the same question that I can store other file and access my iTunes movie music. But sadly it only do as backup. And if u switch off the router, it also switch off the hdd to do backup on your Mac as well.

yes, I know if power off system will never backup my imac. but I never use for backup, just for store files and data due imac and ultrabook harddisk too small

2. Nope, the Time Capsule is not designed as a NAS or for cloud access. If you want that functionality you would have to go for WD MyCloud or Seagate Central that have to be powered on if you want to access them from other networks.

3. APP for Time Capsule is normally attached to the Mac computer that has AppleCare.

4. You will need Airport Utility to configure the Time Capsule. The new generation of Time Capsules can no longer be configured by Airport Utility 5.6.1 for Windows, meaning you need Airport Utility 6.3.2 or Airport Utility for iOS to configure it. So if you are using a Windows PC and Android phone, you will need an iOS device for setup.

I would not recommend that you use the Time Capsule as a wireless data storage as that is not the primary purpose that it was designed for. It definitely can be done though. To put it simply, Time Capsule is designed as a router + wireless backup solution for Mac computers, not as a NAS.

Time capsule is meant for time machine backup. However, you can share an external usb harddrive via usb 2.0 on Time Capsule or Airport Extreme. See link for more info.

2. Yes, see this. Obviously you can't access if your TC/AE is powered down.
3. No, it is tie to your other Apple products.
4. Not sure, never tried.

Having said that, I agreed with the bros that there are other products that is more suitable for your needs. TC/AE has limited configuration and transfer speed limited to usb 2.

Unless you use an iMac or MacBook, not much point getting the AirPort Time Capsule.
