In a somewhat surprising move, Apple announced today that it would be discontinuing development of Aperture, its professional photo editing and management software. The app would be replaced by the upcoming Photos app announced as part of OS X Yosemite.

Sigh. They didn't implement iCloud share photo stream properly in Aperture and now they're ending development on it. Absolutely disappointing.

Considering it was Apple that made Lightroom possible, it's sad to see this happening.

Perhaps they could work with Lightroom to manage photos better so as to allow a more seamless integration with Photos on the Mac, so it syncs with iOS devices better.
