Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, hit store shelves last week to considerable lines and long wait times for preorders. But some customers who were lucky enough to get their hands on one of the $2,000 phones have been reporting an unfortunate problem: The inner screen of the phone can break, showing horizontal bright lines emanating from the phone’s hinge. CNBC's MacKenzie Sigalos speaks to iFixit lead teardown technician Shahram Mokhtari to find out what could be going on.

This streamer also one kind, purposely break it. Self-pwn.

but... he got the strength to break the screen entirely; even Jerry rig everything can't break the entire screen.

He is the first to film himself breaking it. Others just show the aftermath.

dont talk about screen crack.

the sand test also fail jialats.
this iphone duo design ish jin jialats

The Apple iPhone Duo struggled during sand and dust durability tests—most notably in JerryRigEverything’s stress test—where coarse sand and debris worked past the titanium hinge's seals, causing it to crunch, bind, and jam so badly that the magnetic closure could no longer shut the phone properly. [1, 2]

Key Details from the Sand & Hinge Test:
    • Hinge Ingress: Despite Apple's IP68 dust- and water-resistance rating, coarse dirt and sand entered the titanium hinge mechanism during real-world simulation tests. [1]
    • Mechanical Jamming: Debris caused the hinge to bind, crunch, and leave the device permanently wedged partially open because the internal magnets were overwhelmed. [1, 2]
    • Screen & Water Resilience: While the device continued to function and survived baseline water or beach-wash exposures, the physical compromise of the hinge mechanism and a separate extreme bend test (which caused permanent green lines and display failure) led reviewers to cite the hinge as a vulnerable point. [1, 2, 3]
when open up, the hinge is full of debris and sand...it will jamm the gears eventually

SAMSUNG I LOVE YOU

Yeah that was certainly not the intended way to use the phone nor would it usually be the case for most users.

It's like me bending your arm the other way and when it breaks, i laugh and call your bone ''brittle'' lol

Scalpers in mainland China are slashing prices on Apple’s newly released iPhone Duo after the US company’s first foldable smartphone drew mixed early consumer reviews over durability and software glitches.

During the launch of the iPhone Duo, Apple didn't exactly hold back when it came to taking shots at Samsung, dismissing their devices as cheap and crappy. Well, the iPhone Duo is now dealing with cracked display issues, and Samsung is having an absolute field day with it.

When ur older, ur eyesight will deteriorate.

Bigger screen is a boon for u. For something u can put in ur pocket, a foldable is the way.

laptop is too bulky for traveling. Small laptop not practical for office use. so a foldable is an in between for people used to using macbook. but really need a foldable keyboard to pair with. touchscreen has its limits. But first gen duo software support not there yet.
