Apple Making their own GPU

saw this over at tomshardware.

I am not sure if its just GPU integrated with their CPU or there will be discrete GPU as well. But its unlikely to compete with AMD nor Nvidia. However, if Apple also makes their own discrete GPU, then AMD will likely lose Apple since desktops are using radeon GPUs.

This is not surprising at all considering that Apple would like to be designing their own CPU and GPU. They have already done this for their mobile SOC, so it is a matter of time before they start using their own GPU for the laptop/ desktop since they have already already made it clear they are going to use their own ARM based CPU.

In addition, Apple does not sell their hardware outside of their own ecosystem. So with them creating their own GPU will not matter to most people. AMD will lose Apple's business eventually, but I reckoned that the impact may not be as great as Intel losing Apple as their client.

I am quite curious to see how this new Apple platform will perform.

Since Apple makes their own CPU, GPU and OS, they have control over literally everything. OK, not everything. I think things like PCIE, DDR RAM, Nvme etc... they are likely to still use the same. However, I don't think it will matter much.

But they will create the drivers, the OS and vendors will need to make their applications work on the platform. Given the financial muscle of Apple, I feel it may be alot easier to work out bugs and optimise apps.

Who knows, maybe Apply may become popular as gaming computer one day.
