Streetdirectory is useful only if you are driving/walking. I find it close to useless if you need to know which bus/mrt to take from Point A to B.

Unless its a very straight forward route if not more often than not, the suggested buses/MRT are crap.

Having said that Streetdirectory does not have speech so unless you don't mind staring at your phone all the time, Google Maps is probably better.

No one use Garmin SG/MY here? Long time Garmin user. The map is very detailed. Most importantly the turn by turn is super clear on Garmin

I'm using it for quite a long time already and it's my favourite GPS app after Google Maps.

Yup, expensive & not worth it since Google Maps, Waze & Here Maps are all very good & free.

But Garmin is a standalone GPS app and has full functionality of GPS features. Google Maps require cellular data to run.

Am also a long time user of Garmin.

If your device is JBed, you can load maps of other countries before any overseas trips. Offline maps do not require roaming data.

Garmin has the most world maps, be it community maps or official maps.

The SgMy community map is updated every 2 weeks. There are many instances I found google map has no details or not updated for months, especially in Malaysia which I use often.

I been using apple map when driving all the time and it work just fine ! Easy to understand

Tip: just type the postal code u wan go to. Then it will show u the direction..
Dun type address.

Advantage Google map is more detailed. When i reached my destination using apple map, then i will use google map to find my location by walking 😀

I'm partial to Google Maps because it's way better than my Garmin GPS which is so slow in detecting the satellite signal; it's now collecting dust in my glove compartment. :s13:

Also I'm not worried about cellular data - the Onavo Extend app is excellent for shrinking & reducing data on the go.

For overseas travels I use Maps.me & CityMaps2Go - both don't require data & are meant to be used offline.

depending on which country. Google maps can download for offline use in iOS.

Yeah but when you're in M'sia you'll have a problem when needing to use cellular data, unless you get a data card there.

I mainly use my Garmin SG/MY app in M'sia and getting the satellite signal is pretty fast. If Google Maps is also a standalone GPS app, I wouldn't have gotten the Garmin one.

I'm using Pocket Earth Pro for offline maps in other countries. Really great to use and can also use GPS alone to track real-time where you are in that country, but tracking from point A to B still requires you to download offline maps first.

Apple maps reads out street names, Google doesn't. Is this true for everyone? Always wonder if I'm doing something wrong with Google...

I'm not sure about that as I don't really need to use that in SG, but I know Garmin SG/MY does read out street names.
