Side track....

Tim Cook is in China now. He was totally defeated when he saw the real wireless payment in China. Suddenly he felt Apple Pay is nothing when compare with China WeChat pay or Alipay.

I went to Beijing for holiday few months ago, I feel that China is very advance compare to Singapore. Before I went to China, I always think China is very poor and out dated 3rd world country.
I'm very wrong. :o

"Long a cash-first society that lagged behind most developed countries in card payments, China's slow adoption of plastic together with the spectacular growth in smartphone adoption in the past few years created a perfect storm for e-wallet providers such as Alipay and Wechat Pay to enter the fray."

http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/growing-demand-for-mobile-payment-services-across-asia

Plus the Chinese government will only back certain payment services (Alipay etc) and allow certain apps (wechat).

In Singapore - the banks would shudder at the thought of disappearing revenues from credit card loans. Every bank would want a piece of the pie. I believe PAYNOW is only a recent collaboration forced about by impending Apple Pay.

Cashcard - an ancient useless standard only used for cars erp now.
Ezlink - so limited use compared to Hong Kong's Octopus card.

So many standards - but Government don't want to strong arm and favour any bank or financial institution..... So we are now truely a ROJAK "smart" nation.

Ok - enough ranting. :o

it also depends on which part of China you visited as China is very huge. It varies from city to city.

Their WeChat Pay, etc are really used by almost every store that I visited. Even the dumpling stall opened by the elderly. At least that is true in Shanghai.

my usa itunes account dont even have this option.
