Apple products problem - ipad and iphone

My iphone s4 got difficulty in updating software OS 7.1
The current version is OS 6.1. It is still "checking for update software" for a long while.

My ipad's battery is depleted quickly by about 40% despite not being used for a whole day. How come? How to preserve the battery life for a long time?

Oh yes, I forgot to add one more thing - I tried to switch off my iphone but to my surprise, it restarts itself automatically everytime i switch off.

How to switch off without restart itself automatically? Thanks.

Reboot your iPhone and try again.
Alternatively, update your iPhone using iTunes, that should resolve your issue.

How old is your iPad?

How to reboot iphone?

iTunes seems to have iOS 7 guide only.

iPad should be about 2 years old.
