Apple TV is of course not really a SingTel TV replacement. But just for local channels, you have multiple choices.

SingTel TV is one of the ways to get local channels, Starhub TV is another way. TV with digital DVB-T2 tuner is another way or just add a cheap DVB-T2 tuner box if your TV is old and not support DVB-T2. You may need a digital antenna as well.

Toggle is another way. It works on Apple TV. But you do not need to get Apple TV if your objective is just for local channels. DVB-T2 tuner plus a digital antenna may be much cheaper and may even offer better picture quality.

Yes, itunes store purchases will show up for download, but you can't get hd version of shows if your purchase is not.
No, not all apps is working on tvos, only tvos apps will work, this is dependent on the developer.

Oh I see. Thanks a lot for your reply. How do I check (before buying) whether the app I want is available on Apple TV?

What do you use on the apple TV other than the typical slew of apps like netflix, prime video, viki and toggle?

For torrent files, I'll be considering either VLC remote playback or infuse + google drive

Are there ways to get EPL, BBC, US channels for free on apple TV like andriod TV?

Unlikely. I think apple TV still has lack of usage

No it’s because Apple only provides the orthodox “legal” free streaming apps like YouTube, Toggle, Viu etc. Those Android TV apps basically searches for free content on the net & streams them regardless of their source. I’ve got both Apple TV & an Android TV Box so I know how each OS works.

And this is the main reason why most ppl buy Android TV boxes instead of Apple TV.

I don't think viu is on apple TV. I guess ppl don't mind paying if it is good. Android has a lot of pretty good streams

Isn't viu limited to Kdrams mostly? How about Viki?

Before the ATV 4k I owned a Shield. The user experience sucked so I sold it away. Most of the android boxes don't support Netflix at 1080p & above, so can't buy.

The only reason to buy android tv, other than the pre-loaded free stuff (illegal and lags anyway), is native VPN support. However, the last I tired, it doesn't work on Netflix (nordvpn on shield).

Apple TV 4K and Nvifia Shield TV are two of the best streaming device out there. Apple TV 4K has an edge on Netflix in terms of the support of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Shield TV does not support Dolby Vision. And even though it supports Dolby Atmos, Netflix app does not support Dolby Atmos on Nvidia Shield TV.

Nvidia Shield TV should still be very good and well supported. It is still king of the Android TV boxes. Not sure why you say the user experience sucks.

You do not need to use illegal apks since there are many apps from the Google Play Store and you can sideload apps as well. It has Chromecast function as well so you can use apps like Starhub Go.

Netflix US works with VPN even though Nord VPN may not be the best choice. Cheaper VPNs like Windscribe or Surfshark may work better.

I’ve got both Apple TV and Android TV boxes. The Android free streaming apps are much better for these.

I have older Apple TV 3rd gen, old Chromecast 1st gen, and many Android TV boxes, yes I know that there are many free streaming apps for Android. My point is that for iOS, there are still a lot choices as well, free and paid. Especially for main stream legitimate paid streaming services, iOS is not much lag behind Android.

By legitimate main stream streaming services, I mean Toggle, StarHub Go, SingTel Cast, Netflix, HBO Go, TVB Anywhere+, Viu, Amazon Prime Video, Hooq, Fox+, Catchplay On Demand, etc.

For iOS, there are paid IPTV streams that you can subscribe to. For some of them you can use their app, or if your subscription involves an IPTV playlist, you can just use any of the IPTV players on the App Store. Doesn’t need jailbreak.
