Apply Annual Leave for Next Year

Hi, I plan to go on overseas leave back to my home during the Christmas period, maybe December 22-Jan 6 (8 leave, 6 weekend, 2 public holiday). Someone told me tho that you cannot apply overseas leave for next year (2019) because is still 2018? Is this true? will system not allow me to apply for these leave dates? Can my superiors help me out with this?
