And for single core applications, the current system is more than adequate for my usage.

Core count race is indeed on. But honestly, with most games and applications still optimized for 4 cores, and up to 6 cores now with Intel onboard, 12 core may not benefit most users.

12C at 5.1 GHz. That's double the cores for i7-8700K and faster turbo to boot.

I don't know how true this news is to be honest. I recall Samsung did mention that their 12nm is good for 10% performance improvement or 15% power reduction. After all, it is not a big upgrade from 14nm. So I am skeptical at the actual specs. I am expecting them to clock it about 10% higher that's all.

Is all I can say but I already have ryzen. Will see when it comes out.

Difficult to say. The lower tier ones should still fit but the 12C CPUs are a question mark. Still AM4 but power requirements should be higher.
