1)Does anyone know what life as an arty spec trainee at khatib camp is like?
2) What are the different vocations like and how will they choose to assign me to?
3) is it true that arty specs/ spec trainee have to go a lot of overseas live firing?
4) Are there a lot of field camp and route matches?

Definitely good life compared to most others

Different units different equips

khatib camp is one of the most convenient camps in Singapore. Easily accessible by MRT and bus. Hell, if you stay in yishun, you can even walk over. maybe even see what's going on in the camp. inside, as with trainee life, you always feel shitty until you pass out.

2) What are the different vocations like and how will they choose to assign me to?
there is basically gunner spec and arty spec. how they choose is still a mystery as with OCS/SCS/Man


3) is it true that arty specs/ spec trainee have to go a lot of overseas live firing?
there is no place around in SG where you can fire an artillery round so yea there's ANZ/India..

4) Are there a lot of field camp and route matches?
I doubt theres any combat vocation which doesnt have field camp/route march?

1) generally life as a trainee in khatib camp is quite good... compared to sispec.

but because different sub-vocations are managed by different groups of trainers, the treatment will differ slightly.


2) FATA, mortar, primus, pegasus, FH, HIMARS, gunnery.


3) arty got a lot of overseas exercise cos can't do live firing in singapore but that does not mean you will get to go overseas a lot cos there are a lot of active and nsmen arty battalion.

but by right you will get to go at least once cos you need to do live firing in order for the unit to be declared as operational.


4) field camps (we call it outfield) should be just a few but there is a lot of dry-run in camp.

most of the time you will be in camp doing action-front (deploy system) and cease-fire (pack up system and leave) over and over again since there is a time limit for action-front and cease-fire.

(damn it... i am being reminded of all those action-front, cease-fire, baka pole, iron picket, and camo net)

the only difference between outfield and in-camp is that you get to practise recce and shoot-and-scoot during outfield.

khatib camp is very small and surrounded by a temple, schools, hdb, nursery (for plants), etc so you want route march also very hard.

route marches are very very rare. even if there is one, the distance will also be very short, most likely under 10km.


TS, why you so interested in arty spec? want to sign on? just POP?

Usual trainee life i would assume.

U might specialise as a gunnery spec, weapons spec, himars spec. Depending on what specialisation, u might be posted to different units.

I think sct dont get to go overseas. but after u pass out, u might have a chance to go overseas. 23SA goes to thailand, india, NZ or US(only for himars), 21SA goes to NZ, AI and 24SA usually piggy backs 23SA or 21SA.

4) Are there a lot of field camp and route matches?

Yes theres a lot of outfield after u are posted to unit and when your battery has turned ops. Usually 2 3D2N outfields per month. But do take note that if you kena 23SA or 24SA.... high chance that you will have to do about 2-3 guard duties per month and that includes weekend duties most of the time.
