Those rental bikes will be closer to XC in terms of suspension.

If you want my advise, I say, go for AM bike. It's a better all rounder until you decide the discipline you want to venture into.

Giant makes their own dropper post and I believe can be included with a top up from any LBS that stock Giant.

After market got many choices, Rockshox Reverb, KS, FOX etc.

Noted thks Promethus

i dont find them that much more expensive, the "savings" are cancelled out by the prices of their cassettes.

and wiggle lists campy SR11 as 2.1k usd, DA11 as 1.3k usd, pretty much sums up campy.

buy it for the "art and historical" value, or just buy to show off.

in that same vein isn't shimano DA is also for showing off too, lol?

you buy the parts which gives you the most preferred performance for the price you are willing to pay mah, there isn't any need to say which is better based on prices right?

if that is so then we should be using Sora or Claris , microshift right?
based on prices these parts are cheap and last long too ?

Hi guys,

I will be buying a second hand fixed gear bike. Is there anything i should look out for to see if its still in good condition? Appreciate for any help given!

well, i think the easiest thing to see if how clean it is, if the gears are cruddy and the whole thing is rusty or dusty, steer clear, its likely the owner does not take regular care of it

cannot compare like that, super record is higher end than DA. should use record as a gauge, I think it's a more equivalent level as DA.

There's a slight premium (about 200 sgd or so at robble prices) for campag products especially when you compare across the range

I don't think you can really compare cause campag uses a lot of exotic material especially at r and sr level( they use ti and cf)

Closest to DA that I would consider is probably chorus even at record, there lots of usage of cf and thei usage of ceramic USB

My team approx 60% uses campag nobody using super record most are on Athena or chorus.

Campag stuff really age well, the shimano shifters in particular, the lever arms start tilting themselves in after a couple of months, don't see thay problem on campag lol

Nowadays if Im buying 2nd hand stuff I bring those weighing scale mean for measuring food kind if I'm buying carbon fiber parts to check if Chiong one. I also bring ultra strong torch light and shine through the material and check for cracks

Check the gearing system for rust if system is well maintained and oiled normally won't habe

The other part to check is the front of the bike you swing the bike leg and right and see if the bearings are dead, it should feel super smooth like as if there's butter there

AM bikes are way overkill for local usage. Something like a 120-140mm 650B trail bike would suffice, especially for a beginner... why lug around extra travel (and weight!) if one doesn't need it?

I always think TT bikes look super expensive and very satki! too bad my bike havnt reach 0 dollar value due to the maintenance, otherwise if i buy new bike might look at TT .

Yea campy don't have to buy too high end de because their low end is already high end. Even Athena already have cf crankset, and cf shifters.

So the max level I would consider going to is chorus which is everything cf already. If go record, everything is cf plus ti, and ceramic.

Super record is super overkill, cult bearings, ti, cf. moreover smooth and durable. SRAM no doubt is light, but durability wise is not proven, unlike campy.

Buy a foldie keep in office~!

in the past, a colleague brought in a foldie and screwed the carpet up. bringing a bike into the office gets bad stares now. haha.

my office space is also not really strategic to hide a bike. a lot of clients walking around gotta keep the area "zen" =D
