I came back to the finish point at about 4. was with my foldie friends who were really struggling. really respect those who try use foldie to complete 168.

yea, the actual distance is longer. 168 is also 170+km. I rode there and back from my house, total about 220km. the fabric saddle helped my butt throughout, no butt pain at all. :D

I know of two cyclists who tried to complete 168km with pacific carryme 8 inch wheels.

They had to give up at the 110 km mark due to back pain.

Is it my tyre too thick that's why alot of resistance?

I can change my tyres on this current Giant Talon 4? Will that help?

Got cyclist get knock by car around Punggol traffic lights during the short term heavy rain.

Also throughout the rally the number of people park their bike at road side due to puncture is really spectacular.

They fell out at the 110km mark and took bus back to finishing point.

The lady cyclist was humorous enough to say both of them up lorry. :o

Change to slick tyres, but there are trade off. You willing to trade off your comfort and grip for speed?

Once you achieve a certain speed, maybe you will prefer comfort more. I nowadays ride my brompton more than my tern as it is way more comfortable. :s13: In fact, I ride my brompton 80% of the time.. Take it as training.

Changing to slick tyres will help.

How slick? It will have a significant difference? But thinner tyres are more prone to puncture when on road such as port holes and those stones?

What's a reasonable size tyre for my MTB then?

Thanks!

Yesterday's ride was great!

BTW, did anyone tried the "jump start" freebie they gave?
I tried, and i was surprised i didn't get cramps yesterday. Not sure if it was because of the cream or something else.

From knobbies that came with my mtb, i changed to 1.75" panaracer t-serv. I find this a good balance between not too thin to get stuck in drain grills, thick enough for confidence to ride across almost anything.

So far, gravels, potholes, shattered glass on road, OK for me.

but won't be as fast as u change to more botak or thinner slicks lah.
