Mr Headhunter, my current employment contract requires me to serve 2 months' notice period. this hinders me from getting a new job. whenever i go interview, they kinda tell me they cant wait that long (at most they can wait a month). is it possible to take up the job first, then i go back to my current company and resign plus pay off 1 mth to reduce the notice from 2 months to 1?

If someone who has no experience in marketing , what is the position which the person should start off with?

Typically sales, public relations, corporate communications

what recruitment consultancies will you recommend for a person wanting to switch to a career in recruitment?

if a person is not extrovert, will he/she survive in this business?

Depends on what industry you are in/want to focus in.

And yes, people who are not extrovert can also do well. Some of the top performers in my company are not extroverts

Hi HH! I understand that you mentioned not to ask questions about your job but I'm asking on behalf of a friend.. hope these questions are okay for you..

1. Starting as a recruitment consultant, what's the normal pay range for an entry level position?

2. How often does an entry level RC get commission?

3. For months that you do not get any commission, are there a lot of pressures from the bosses?

4. Progressionwise after being a RC, if they would go internally in-house, would they need to get a HR dip/cert?

5. Difference between RC and HH, aside from the pay grade of candidates that you are looking to hire?

Sorry for the numerous questions!

1. Anywhere from 2k basic onwards
2. Depends on how hard and how smart you work. Can be every month
3. Again depends on, when your months you do get commission, how much was it. Eg: You get 3 months every month you bring 10k profit to the company, vs 2 months you get zero, then bring in 60k profit to the company on the third month
4. Not required to get a cert.
5. pay grade, availability of the types of candidates, industry, and a few other factors.

Only if your company allow you to pay off.

Usually these will be written in your contract whether you can or cannot pay off.

And it might be possible, that due to the nature of your job, they need you to stay 2 months (and you cannot do anything about it cos it is contractually bounded)

HH need urgent advise pls... my frd has just got salary cut 10% by the company.

Are employers allowed do this to employees without their signed consent and without any advance notice?

This is not during probation as he is more than 3 mths in company.

Is there anythgn that can be done to salvage the situation?

hello bro HH,

I work in the banking sector, specifically within the regulatory / compliance area with about 2yrs of exp.

Recently i went for an interview for a near similar jr position but this time round i will be part of the advisory team of 5 ppl including the regional head. My interview took about 1hr 40mins and mostly was about technical qns, case studies and how the businesses work. The interviewers seem rather happy with my responses and answers, at some point into the interview they were telling me about benefits of workin with them and askin about my notice period i.e opportunities to learn / grow more, work life balances, greater exposure, close knitted team culture etc...
After i left the venue, about 3-4hrs later they called me and says the regional head of dept wants to meet me and wants to set up a second meeting.

so at this point, what shld i expect from the 2nd interview? I presume it would mostly be culture - fit qns and less on the technical side? Do i stand a good chance in nabbin this job? I dont think regional head of dept would be talkin about remunerations / packages, etc right? Thks.

For fresh grad, is it better to seek job roles in MNC for brand name or join SME to gain more experience?

An interview is subjective.

Because in many cases you don't know who else they are interviewing. They might seem happy with you but what if tomorrow they interview someone even better?

An interview with regional head usually is more strategic (where do you see yourself in 5 years)

Or direct (why do you want to join our company vs a competitor company)

It can also be subjective (what do you think of foreign banks outsourcing people to lower cost countries in recent year)

I ever heard a candidate being asked

"who in your opinion are the top 3 investment banks globally? Who is no 1 who is no 2 and who is no 3?

And why did you rank them this way?"

well the place im going to deals mainly in pwm / structured finance, treasury, etc.. not really an full fledged ib...

im jus hoping there isnt many candidates lined up behind me, and i got a rather good vibe from the legal counsel / snr mgr ladies who interviewed me plus the rather fast followup from them immediately...

but like what u said, bro... an interview is just an interview.. anything can happen and go against my favor.. just gonna keep my fingers crossed :(

1) post your cv on job portals
2) Create a professional linkedin profile
3) Always keep a lookout of available jobs on job portals. You can set an alert where jobs which are relevant to your experience are automatically sent to your email

and no. HH does not primarily only happen in finance.

I have colleagues who work in construction industry, supply chain industry, technology, HR, FMCG, Oil and Gas, etc

Is there such thing as HH for public service jobs?

Hello HH,

A friend of mine in a job of about $200-300K per annum range. His approach when any HH calls him is not to disclose his exact salary but instead asks the HH how much the coompany willing to pay for his experience in that position. His argument is the pay package of a job should based on individual experience and seniority of that position and nothing to do with his current package.

You think this is the logical approach ???

Hi HH,

Is the restraint of trade clause in employment letters enforceable in SG?

For instance, the clause states I cannot join another company within the same industry within 12 months from resignation/termination.

Exactly, that is exactly what I told my friend. Unless you are in he bracket above $1M per annum range, u are not fit to talk that way. He insisted that so until so many years still hanta Kaki on same job!!!

For first job, it is far more important to be in the right job scope, rather than whether the company is a MNC or SME.

Working in the wrong job scope in MNC is worse than working in the right job scope in SME
