Currently a fresh graduate from engineering. However given my personality and years ago I already have the interest in finance, I would like to try out sales in finance sector. Can you advice me some possible positions to look out for as I have been trying to look into it through job portals but I still can't get the picture of what kind of positions are available.

And also what is the common path for an engineering background to join business industry ?

when job application asks for writing sample....what exactly do they want?


like one page essay or 2 para of the topic of job.

as in if i apply for public policy job. then my writing sample must be about 1 page of local politics or choose 1 govt policy to elaborate.....


googled but not sure if usa standard is followed in sg....

Well even if you call them back they cannot give you back the offer because most likely the client won't want to give it to you again.

Like to hear what is the broad career outlook for the Electronics & Semiconductor industry in SG directed to the R&D side?

And, what can you suggest to someone with R&D experiences from such an industry looking to either make a total career switch or advance within the industry itself? Appreciate the help!

Consider project management, or even program management (managing multiple projects across multiple geographies) if you are high level enough

Electronics and semicon doesn't look like an industry with much growth potential in the medium to long run because other countries might catch up with Singapore in the future though.

Easiest way is to become a junior relationship manager for mass market, then advance to priority banking then so on.

Alternatively is to become a SME relationship manager, then potentially move to large corporates

You should negotiate on the phone and not when you meet them because they need to get approvals

Looks like I have set myself up for a career with diminishing returns. Only have myself to blame for feebly opting for an R&D/engineering track back then without carefully considering the prospects of it to the job market today. This said, still keeping my fingers crossed for a way out eventually.

Sanctions is totally different from monitoring.

Sanctions is real time and monitoring is not.

Real time means you have to clear the log on the same day it happens or the company gets hit by a big big fine.

So sanctions is infinitely more stressful to do.

And kyc is better cos well it can progress to be more high level.

Monitoring got limit to how high you can progress

Anyone could do a KYC job following a set of procedures to gather customer information whereas monitoring requires looking through transactions, gathering information and forming opinions/analysis and justifying why transactions are deemed suspicious/not suspicious, which requires good judgement.

And you mention sanctions is real time and monitoring is not. How about sanction/ transaction monitoring, dealing with pre-approval of payments real time? Any prospects in that?

Tell them over the phone you want to negotiate. If you had accepted over the phone go down is just to sign.

Need urgent advise on following: someone i know recently got terminated by his company. He has worked for nearly a year with the company. Has no bad record and has been a discipline employee.

The company asked him to self-resign and leave on the same day immediately.

The company forfeited his 10 days worth of leave and did not pay the 1 mth compensation as stated in the contract.

The management said, If want the company to compensate the 1 mth and his 10 days leave, the company will make known to the next company that he was being fired instead of self-resign when the companies do reference check.

Can i ask, are companies allowed to do this to the employees ?

My frd felt threatened, what can he do?

just wonder，
fresh grad，starting my 1st fulltime job， initially the company kinda of let me know the pay through email，I think the pay is ok although I feel it is low 。。。but cox I think a friendly working environment for my 1st job is important。。
then now，the LoA come, I just realize that the pay is break down to basic+ performance, no OT pay, bonus at company's discretion, no dental allowance as well...
cox the working hour is long(54hrs)，

Pardon me but what's the difference between kyc ops and kyc compliance?

Kyc compliance are those doing private banking/corp banking on boarding of clients?
Kyc ops are those doing yearly refresh/remediation of clients?

How's the career progression like for both?
