Dear Headhunter and All, appreciate some advice on my situation.

I quit without a job (yes not advisable but I was turning into a zombie), recently went for a interview via a recruiter where I asked for 20% increment, the company said its "within their Budget". Today, recruiter called me and said the company can only offer me 12% increment as I might not have enough relevant experience. Told her I will need to consider.

What do you guys think? Should I say no, I am strictly looking for a 20% increment to the recruiter? Or is 12% reasonable in this market? It is the same industry, job scope is perhaps half similar to what I was doing so I have the knowledge.

Do you think the recruiter is conveying a lower amount to me on purpose for her benefit? I also know I'm their most preferred candidate cos my Friend there alr saw them interviewing others but not qualified.

Should I take the risk and say no? Will they forego me then?

Thanks guys!

Firstly, the recruiter does not dictate the budget, the client does, in fact it is in the interest of the recruiter to push your salary higher (because they charge the client a % of the amount you earn, therefore, you earn more = the recruiter earn more)

Secondly, did you tell the recruiter you left without a job? Cos if the information gets communicated with the client, they might use the info to lowball you

Like i said, in most cases, it is not the recruiter that is pushing your salary down, but most likely, the client.

Depends on whether you choose to go ahead or not. Good luck!

Last week I went for two interviews in a row. All first round.

Company A:

Interviewed by the MD and the HR director. At the end of the interview the MD told the HR to out me through psychometric test, which I received the link the next day and they chased me to complete the 3 test in 2 days time. The HH responsible for me told me the company feedback I am the best among all they have interviewed so far.

Company B:

Interviewed by a VP and HR. At the end of the interview, the VP asks the HR to put me with round 2 with a dotted line manager, who is in US now on vacation. I thought I have to wait until Jan when he comes back. Then two days later he told me a call has been scheduled next week for me during his vacation.

Can the expert rate for me which one highest chance?

Is this a promotion or you are already doing this role?

How many years of experience do you have?

is about the same level of role i am having, with the company A's one slightly higher since need to manage a team of 12... my years of experience is > 20 years.

Now I have company C emerge. I passed the hiring manager and the HR director after two hours of interview. They put me to next round to meet the manager of the hiring manager this week over a night video conference because he is based in US. Let see how it goes.

Hi there,

Fresh (sorta) graduate with 1 year working experience in Financial Crime Compliance in a foreign bank, was initially hired as contract and converted to perm with a promotion.

In terms of career prospects, which would be more beneficial if I were looking to jump? Joining the Commercial Affairs Department (doing AML related stuff) or jumping to another bank doing compliance?

Assuming end goal would be to work in a bank again doing compliance, would banks prefer hiring candidates from CAD or banks?

Thanks!

Long term career progression, need to either join CAD (and stay there for at least 5 years) before moving to a bank

or

Stay in your current bank and learn as much as possible for at least 3 years.
