I'm currently working in an engineering firm, and have also been studying for a part time degree in finance. I'm planning to switch over to the finance sector (FI, banks, etc...), is it advisable for me to do so now? As I was thinking of gaining some industry experience before getting my degree. What other job areas in finance can I look for when the banks are reducing head count or not taking in new hires?

What will be the salary range like if I were to switch over now?

Banking and finance are aggressively hiring, no need to scared no job

The other day I received a call to join the bank as a consultant. They got my resume from jobsdb.com. Job duties are to manage customer's investments.

My resume is a engineering one. despite sending so many resumes to engineering companies, I havent got interview yet. Then this famous bank called me to join them. I say I ish only engineering experience, i know nothing about investments. They say ish ok one, they need people and they will pay good basic salary. They will provide training.


they say if I am good can easily get 15k/month.

I work in my current job, also dont have 15k/month. And I am very good at my current job

If famous banks are even calling an engineering guy like me to join them, this means there is no shortage of jobs in the banking and finance industry.

Those from banking and finance no need to scared no job.

depends on your prior job history, and what reason you gave. Usually companies have no issue with people taking time off even up to a year, depending on what kind of job you are applying for.

No. So far i have not come across any financial institution that does a reference check on CPF records.

i just got offered a job as a compliance officer in a FI. I will be doing AML, risk monitoring and regulatory. Its an all in 1 job. What kind of prospect should i have in 3-5 years?

Hi, I'm currently a transactions analyst in a foreign bank with 1year plus of working experience. I'm thinking of taking up ACCA as I have no accounting background (my degree is from SIM RMIT Business Management). Can you advise me on how useful ACCA will be for me? Hi,

I am looking to do a career switch to a compliance role (preferably KYC) in a bank after a few years of working experience in HR. I have a private uni Degree in Biz (Econs/Finance) and I am willing to take a pay cut/no pay increase and go in on a contractual basis. I am proficient in business Japanese and I have also realized that quite a few compliance roles do ask for the candidate to have proficiency in an additional Asian language and I feel I could use this to my advantage in future.

Given the current job market, would it be hard to find a contract position? Is it a feasible option to go in on a short-term contract and expect to find something more permanent after?

I am currently year 2, going year 3 in my in Degree studies (A&F from SIM-UOL) and should be graduating in next Aug/Sep.

I have been doing my own business since 2014 throughout my course of study. A General Insurance brokering company & a digital marketing leads generation company. Both my companies have an average of S$60k revenue per year. I co-founded these 2 companies and done almost everything from scratch (developing businesses, liasing with partners/distribution channels, managing/developing operations) since the start of the companies.

But I'm intending to valuate and sell off both of my companies when I graduate. Just curious to know, with my past 3 years of experiences in B2B business development & operations along with my Degree, will I be able to secure any job as Business Development Manager/Key Account Manager with the regional MNCs? I am very comfortable doing sales presentations & do not mind traveling. Can I also know what should be the salary range I should be expecting?

No. Simply because often there are too many candidates for them to respond to every one of them, and secondly, if they reject you via email, they cannot revisit your application again so the door is left open

hi, can i ask are the criteria in the job ads strict?

most of the ads post a whole list of complex task and high qualifications and work experience even for junior role.

Do I still stand a chance if I fail some of the criteria?

Usually qualifications are quite strict, years of experience not so strict if job scope is similar. Eg: you have done a similar role for 2 instead of 3 years

Generally people get specialized either in aml or regulatory. Not advised to do both in 3 to 5 years actually
