The point I am trying to make is that companies, for certain reasons, do look at age.

HH and recruiters, offer a way out for these companies.

I am not saying that this is prevalent, acceptable or should be encouraged. I am just sharing the reality.

Kudos to you for holding firm to your ethics.

As with any industry, there are good and bad apples :s12:

Not necessarily got higher chance.

But a lot of companies 100% outsource their recruitment to agencies (they don't even put job ads online), even the big companies and small companies

Therefore you won't know what the company is hiring for unless you go thru agency.

Of cos if just nice the company post job ad, and you apply and you got the right skills, then you have the same chance as going thru an agency.

Dear Mr Head Hunter..

When I told recruiters that I am looking at $x,xxx ($y,yyyy + 35% incremental)for my next salary which is tagged at the market for fresh graduates.

When I told them about my last drawn pay which is $y,yyyy. They get very dulan and pissed off.

Why does recruiters get pissed off and angrily told me that I am dreaming. However, I am getting the pay now. In fact, it even more!

Am I wrong to tag myself to market rate of what a edu cert I have? I do not think so and why they are behaving like this? I have lost trust in local head hunters liao.

Thanks.

how is BGC Search Pte Ltd?

JS quite a number of positions by them under BnF.

will cert(s) from https://www.ibf.org.sg/index.html really benefits candidate?

which will be more suitable/feasible for under-grade to look upon?

Salary computation has been mentioned a few times. With internal equity being almost the most important.

So by asking for 35% is a bit on the high side.

Private sector seldom look at Certs (unless you are in IT)

I don't know why they get pissed off by your current salary, because there is a reason why some people get certain salaries

Not sure of them. I think they are a local company. But those certs will not really help you to get ahead to be honest.

How much do companies pay headhunters (recruiters?) for each placement?
If the recruiter charges 1.5x of the placement's monthly salary - is this standard?

Typically 20% of the candidate's annual salary (or more depending on how senior the candidate is)

For Those with less than 3 years experience, typically the going rate is around 18% of the candidate's annual basic salary (including AWS but not variable bonus)

1.5x of the monthly salary is very low already to be honest.

is it better to look for jobs after Jan ??
im thinking to switch

No best time to look. After Q1 usually, more candidates will be in the market looking for job (after they get their bonus) so more people will compete with you for the right job. However there will also be more vacancies after Q1 because more people resign (after they get their bonus)

just wondering, why is it that companies are so stubborn about sticking to 10-20% increment based on last drawn salary?

lets say a company is willing to pay 6k for a position, and then they have a candidate who meets all the criteria. however her current salary is only 3.5k but she asks for 4.5k, will the company still give her what she wants? its way below their budget anyway.

Internal Equity. :)

If you are really so good (better than all the people in their team currently), you will get more than 20%, trust me.

ah. so it depends on the salary of the current team. but then again if she is already underpaid for her role she might not be able to bring up her salary to market rate.

Nope.

It depends on

1) Job history
2) Experience of current team
3) Compensation of current team

If you are really as good as you claim you are (and can back it up), you will get paid more than 20%.

Unless you think you are good, but you are actually not that good compared to other people. (Eg: Job hopper, you only have 4 years but the other person has 6 years, etc)

Is it a good thing to highlight entrepreneurial experience/ability? Even if totally different industry, would employers feel that u're a danger cos u may quit to start your own business?

Not really.

Got a lot of examples of people who left the industry to start their own business and went back to same industry after that

let's say i have good experience/record working in a IT sales-related field then i join another MNC which does IT but higher role/scope within 6 months, i feel like quitting despite performing much above average because

1) i don't think i was sufficiently trained/set up for success in my role
2) The JD and role didn't match
3) I feel personally im at best will only be pretty good at it. will never be very good at my job cos its not a good fit

Recruiters see my resume that I have only joined 5 months ago, will they think im a job hopper? what should I say to explain why im looking for another job so soon?

also, is it possible for sales role people to transition to non-sales/analyst related roles? i want to do that but recruiters keep pushing me the sales related jobs and not really the analyst type ones after I tell them what I am looking for.

lastly, what job portal do you recommend? non finance/science industry

Internal equity - What happens if my current salary is higher than others with equal or more experience?

....Will HR:

a) offer me a salary to match others with similar experience? In other words, pay cut.
b) offer what i am currently drawing (Status quo)
c) do a 5-10% markup as a gesture of goodwill
