They did not even offer him food and drinks for whole day, how can these be friends anymore.

When you work definitely you will get paid plus suitable timing for tea break and lunch break. They treated him like that, for me will be informed them they have no photographer any more and walk off. Keep all the pics for bargain high high price later.
Also no red packet angpow either.

Officially is agreed to work from 11am to 7:30pm, but he work non-stop from 11am, without lunch break. By 5pm he beh tahan and ask for break, which was rejected by the groom. Normal office work skip lunch also will feel damn jialat, let alone whole afternoon run around under hot weather without AC

Serves to say that it doesn't pay to be kind. :(

A photographer agreed to shoot a friend’s wedding for just $250. He spent the entire day — from 11 AM to 7:30 PM — working in a sweltering venue with no air conditioning, and wasn’t offered any food or water.

By 5 PM, he asked to take a short 20-minute break to grab something to eat. The groom shut him down, replying: “You’re either the photographer or you leave without getting paid.”

Exhausted and overheated, the photographer had enough. Right then and there, he deleted all the wedding photos in front of the groom and said: “I’m not your photographer anymore.”

The story went viral on Reddit, sparking major support for the photographer. Many blasted the couple for how they treated their friend, though some questioned whether deleting the photos was taking it too far.

Nothing wrong with deleting the photos esp if the couple's being this level of twat.

but he'd deleted it too early.

i'd had waited till end of the whole day and when the couple decides to cheap out and not pay (high probability), I'd just format the CF card in one fell swoop.
He deleted in front of other people. So got some social justice .. maybe that what he wanted

This is communication error. Obviously this lousy photog never even bothered to check the schedule of events of the day itself. Lunch of course ask first. Break, if the wedding no break, then how to have break? And hot weather, if is outdoor during summer he definitely knows what he is getting into.

Read the story again leh, like csb. Key loophole is in these paragraphs:

He spent the entire day — from 11 AM to 7:30 PM — working in a sweltering venue…

By 5 PM, he asked to take a short 20-minute break to grab something to eat….. Right then and there, he deleted all the wedding photos in front of the groom

This one, the couple was unreasonable . Out of 900 + photos, 20 were sub par... still have 800+ photos for a $350 job... that's less than 50cts each.
But the photographer also stupid, didn't bother to remove the lousy ones ( or he thought they were nice?) , and to edit out that guy in the middle of that photo ? The guy looks like a dejected ex bf of the bride / groom

The good old "I give you exposure and help you build portfolio so next time you can be a professional photographer. But I can't pay you too much cos my wedding got a budget."

This started with the advent of DSLRs and people offering "professional photography service" because "it's so easy just pressing buttons and I can earn a few hundred dollars."

Yup. The state of photography and art in Singapore had been relegated to some school hobby club CCA is because of the cheapskate mentality of Sinkies from the era when DSLRs started nearly 25yrs ago. Cos Sinkies, being the wretched cheap souls most are, do not want to respect the photographer as a proper artist.
