will they open up and check? what reasons i should give them? thanks in advance.

Very likely they will open the phone to check. Soaked in water LCI sure triggered. Go and be prepared to pay to get it exchanged. Water damage not covered by warranty.

Not sure, but there are more than one in the device. They will check and open the device on the spot to check. Not sure about the price to get it exchanged though.

The Apple Knowledge Base (KB) HT3302 (I don't have 10 posts yet, can't post links nor images :() says that the Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is located within the SIM card slot.

Edit: on the Apple support forums, someone claims that there are three LCIs: "two internal & one where the sim tray is. There are none in the dock connector or headphone jack."

they check over the counter? then how much u paid for repairing?

As mentioned in the previous posts, they open it right away at the counter as the internal LCIs needs to be checked. I did not pay anything - it was not soaked - there's an issue with the loose home button. ;-)

Did you extend your warranty with AppleCare+ and how long has it been since you purchased your iPhone 5s?

If you purchased AppleCare+, bring your phone to an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) and they'll charge you S$108 (w/o GST) for up to 2 iPhone replacements (may be new or refurbished); if it's only been <30 days since you bought your phone, you can still purchase AppleCare+ from the Apple Store.

Else, you can try going to an AASP or 3rd party repair shop but you should note that "damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”)" will cause your phone's 1 year warranty to become void.

I personally recommend AASP to be safe... the 5s still has awhile before its warranty expires

yes they will not open up ur phone and check for water damge at registration counter.the counter will only do a water damage check at sim slot area. u get a queue number and the actual counter will open up and check all 3 water damge area.

put ur phone in a bucket of rice and let the rice to suck all the watervapour inside for few days and good to go.
my gf's iphone also soak with water and unable to turn on. after puting in rice, she is still using it untill now. 5 months already and not a single problem from her phone.
