Intending to assemble at PC Themes, but wondering whether if I bring it back on public transport will I damage components? (especially HDD if fix on rig)

Used to DIY myself, but haven't done it for like 4+ yrs, so rusty liao.. appreciate any tips from experienced riggers!

put back in the casing box with styrofoam when assembled, should be ok, try not to shake it and put it on the floor in a corner of bus or mrt so don't block other people way

nothing wrong with taking public transport if you plan your trip properly

go on a weekday during non-peak hours

i usually go by mrt or bus with a haversack then buy all the components and put inside with hand carrying casing and monitor

the mrt and bus stop quite nearby about 100m away

can save around S$50 both ways if don't take taxi, enough to buy a budget mATX casing

think if u want to take taxi, go funan better, put the items in a cart and push to taxi stand, probably plus taxi fare could cost S$200 more compare to buy from SLS and take public transport

keekeekee :D

The shop assemble liao most likely will but it back into the box that came with the casing. Can ask them to tie some string so easier to handle

definitely doable. Remembered once I brought the box up the bus, even can go up 2nd storey to sit down.

PCs are more durable than u think, some knocks wun damage one.

Pay so much on DIY PC but too cheapskate to Taxi home?

Why must taxi home? Taxi will cost a bomb cos I live in CCK area.

The mobo and normal stuff I'm ok. But just scared HDD may end up causing shock to inside? If put styrofoam should be good right?

i think most RMA only need anti-static bag, receipt and the spoil item

HDD head will park away from the disk when it is off so don't worry

MRT is much faster than bus

ATX tower is easy, one pair of bookshelf speakers is much more difficult.

I stay in Sembawang, very very far from sim lim even by train.

I've choosen to buy most parts from amazon, sit at home and wait comfortably for people to deliver to your doorstep!;) Tell you honestly, never look back since.

I even bought a new casing from amazon. Yes, the shipping fee is somewhat close to the price of the item itself, but i bought a few items at one go, so is offset by those items all together. No a bad move, considering i still managed to save close to 40% compared to sls price.;)

I also live in cck. I once dragged an assembled CPU rig during a weekday peak hours down to sim lim by bus and back (take bus 67 from Sim Lim bus stop). During peak hours some more. I also had HDD, graphic card, etc inside. But by dumping the entire rig back into the styrofoam casing packaging, I managed to haul it to sim lim using a standard PC trolley. So no need to take taxi if u cant really afford. I rather u spend more on the PC itself and save on taxi fare. An hour of inconvenience on bus 67 back to cck interchange is much better than regret that u cheapened on pc parts due to the need to take taxi.

Actually, if one run their pc stock (not overclock or heavy modding) and use decent brand parts, warranty most of the time means nothing. The only thing on a PC that will likely fail most if the harddisks, rest of these are usually quite hardy.

So if the savings is like > 20-30% after shipping, it is quite worthwhile to ship from overseas.

Bukit timah road straight to cck. I dun see why it is so far.

Bargain for discount. Most likely you will be able to get 20 or more which is enough for 1 trip back.

If buying at sim lim already can incur DOA (dead-on-arrival) PC parts, surely shipping from overseas would also incur such costs. And difference is that buying from sim lim u can go back shop and demand replacement under lemon law and warranty obligations, but not for overseas shipped PCs. And harddisk spoil nvr mind, easy to isolate and replace. But wad happens if the same possibility that harddisk spoils on arrival is extended to critical parts like motherboard and CPU chip?

Not really encouraging local buyers to buy whole PC rigs from overseas. Individual PC parts can, but entire PC rigs the risks involved are much higher. Else the 20%-30% foolproof cost savings everyone in Singapore would abandon buying from Sim Lim and local shops like Courts and Challenger and all flock to these online stores liao lo.
