Did try with 80 Mhz only, also auto (20/40/80/160) as well... didn't help.. still max at 300-400 Mbps..
this is really weird even my Linksys AC-2600 was able to get 500-600 Mbps when i stand right beside it
I don't use iphone but my pixel 7 test about 600-700 @5ghz(160mhz) average when connected to the main node xd6.

My settings as per screenshot
Any other thing that I can adjust in order to get at least 600-700 Mbps when standing right beside main unit ?

I am just using default settings on mine. You may have slower/older devices in your 5ghz network, hence slowing down iPhone 14 speeds. You can push all non AX / Wi-Fi 6 devices to 2.4ghz. Afterwards just play around with the control channel untll you find one that gives you the best possible speeds. Do check via the app to make sure you are on main node before testing.

A few suggestions.
1) Try the default wireless setting.

2) Turn off the mesh node and see if you have different results. Since you are using Ethernet backhaul this should not matter. But you may want to double confirm that you are really using Ethernet backhaul and not wireless backhaul (which may affect your wireless speed of the main node).

3) Make sure you use the SpeedTest iOS App and not using browser. And choose the right SpeedTest server. Usually your ISP provides good enough SpeedTest server for this test.

4) Turn off the other active 5GHz clients as much as possible.

I’m the only one using and no other 5Ghz device is connected, may I know what speed did you get with default factory setting ? Mine is even slower and that’s why I tried to change here and there but only manage to get ard 300-400 Mbps the most

This was what I get from RT-AX82U using iPhone 14 512GB version (non-Pro), above 700Mbps but below 800Mbps. It is almost stock settings with minor changes (disable 2.4GHz, enable 160MHz, CH60 for 5GHz band). I have 160MHz capable clients so that I enable 160MHz channel. And CH60 happens to be the better channel for my place.

Recently I encounter something weird with my setup… AX6000 as main router in living room and my node using AX86U in my master room which is 2 common rooms down the hall way with a bomb shelter right next to the hallway causing my wifi strength to drop to 2.4ghz in both common rooms.

While my master room is a mesh node, my wifi speed is actually faster than my main router which I find odd.

anyone with similar encounters?

@Legend2127 ,

Based on your floor plan, you have a lot structural wall in you house. Anyways if the 5ghz signal is good enough for the common rooms, just don't use the 2.4ghz wifi and it will never connect to it accidentally.

Totally cannot receive 5ghz from common rooms. I’m using smart connect thou. I’m considering to add one more node in my bedroom 3 using wired backhaul.

It is a bit strange that you can not get 5GHz from both of the common rooms. Both GT-AX6000 and RT-AX86U are among the best Wifi 6 router in the market. Yes the floor plan is not the best but for your setup, by right the GT-AX6000 in the living room should be able to provide 5GHz wireless access to the Bedroom 3 (with lower speed compared to the living room), and the RT-AX86U in the master room should provide 5GHz wireless access to the Bedroom 2 (with lower speed compared to the master room).

Are you putting the GT-AX6000 and RT-AX86U inside a glass cabient or things like that which blocks the wifi? Try gto put it on a higher place and with less stuff to block the wifi signal.

The AX6000 is on my tv console however right behind it is the bomb shelter.

while the AX86U is on the floor but have a clear line of sight which is visible from the other end of the hallway where my ONT is.

it is positioned exactly as how I label in my floor plan.

Try to move your GT-AX6000 a bit towards the hallway to see if you can get some improvement.

Placement is rather important.

But if you have some limitations for the placement of the main GT-AX6000, then yes you can try to add another mesh node in either of the bedroom.

Likely will have to add another mesh node due to placement limitations.

I know any dualband wifi 6 Asus router can form the mesh to resolve the signal issues. In one of the bedroom. But if I wan to ensure I get optimal signal in both bedroom 2 and 3 any suggestions in the model I should get?

depends on your requirements, even an AX-55U is sufficient

a more elegant solution for bedroom would be second hand XT8 and XD6

Is it still not possible to buy RT-AX86U in SG? I want the multi-gig LAN port so don't want to settle for RT-AX86S...

Also would the following make sense for setting up an AiMesh network?

ONT -> RT-AX86U -> ethernet to GT-AX6000 in room

and setting the AX6000 to be the "main" node and the AX86U as the satalite node? Mainly because the room is in a more central area so I'd want the AX6000 to be the main WiFi router for the house. Just not sure if using the RT-AX86 at the ONT is "worse" performance.

EDIT: Nevermind just realised the above setup doesn't work. AX86U only has one multi-gig port, so I can't multi-gig WAN in and then multi-gig LAN to the room.

Hi all,

I am re-contracting my M1 broadband and need some help regarding the routers.

Which is the better one? TP-Link or the Asus Series?

Which is the better router?
a) Archer AX72 (AX5400)
b) Archer AX11000 (AX11000)
c) RT-AX88U
d) ROG Rapture GT-AX6000

My usage is usually the following:
a) light gaming,
b) work based (Zoom/Internet/movie downloads/Youtube, etc.),
c) I work exclusively at home,
d) I dont do wifi mesh at home as it is too troublesome.

Currently I am using an Asus RT-AC1200G+ router.

Budget? How is the wireless coverage of your current Asus RT-AC1200G+?

If you are okay with the budget, then Asus GT-AX6000 has the best price performance ratio on the high end. It is about S$450 BNIB from Carousell.

If you are very low on the budget, then Archer AX72 is the best at below S$100 (about S$75 to s$80 BNIB from Carousell).

No point buying the Asus RT-AX88U or Archer AX11000 now that GT-AX6000 is much better.
