I did a stupid thing a absentmindedly left my wallet with a magnetic money clip on my running N53SV and left it by itself for about half an hour. When i returned, got a black screen with an error message.
When I tried to restart the system, i got the error
"A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
but when i did it doesnt start. I know it was bad. I figured its probably a hard disk failure.
I did prepare a recovery disk and and it gets as far as the AI Recovery Restore Panel but I get the error message
"Failed to retore disk from the ASUS Recovery DVD.
Elapsed Time:00:00:08
Error Code is: 1025"
I figured at this point its beyond me to salvage this.
So now I need to bring it down to the shop. The 2 year warranty period is over. So should i still take it to the ASUS service centre for repair? Or should i try Sim Lim?
Can anyone advice on the expected costs for parts and service? I am wary of sim lim and dont want to get ripped off. I would go to the service centre but from past experience, they take 2 weeks to repair, and i would prefer not to wait that long, since i suspect it wont take that long to fix.
