A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a factory refreshed Asus T300 Chi from Laptop Gallerie which comes with 2 years warranty. A steal considering it is $200 cheaper than a set at the IT show.

Less than 2 weeks, I was bumped on the MRT and hit against the railing. Somehow, it caused my laptop screen to crack as I was holding it in a pouch.

I do understand that such repairs are not covered by warranty but nevertheless I send it to Asus.

Asus took in the set and provided me with a quote.

Imagine the shock when I saw the quotation from them, it is $2,512 (including GST) for the repair.

I thought there was an error and contacted Asus and was told that this is the cost of repair.

I contacted several other repair shops and was quoted a price between $250 to $400 for the repair.

I argued with the customer service officer of Asus and then she dropped a second bomb.

She claims that my system was a refurbished set and so my set does not have a valid warranty at all.

The best is that she can offer me is to purchase from an authorised reseller the same set @$899 as my set set was not under warranty.

I contacted Laptop Gallerie and the owner set about to contact Asus. A few days later, Asus apologised for her mistake and claims that despite this, I could take up the offer or repair at the quoted price with a discount on the labout charge of $80.

Before mistake was made, offer was $899 and after realising their mistake same shitty offer. So much for customer service recovery.

Guess as a highly satisfied customer, I will still SUPPORT ASUS cos I am an ass (ASUS = U inside my ASS) :D:s12:

apparently the customer service was quick to push the blame that I bought a refurbished set and she is helping me despite this fact.

I contact laptop gallerie about it and they told me it is a factory refreshed set and still have warranty. they told me that they will clear it with Asus.

A few days later, the Asus customer service send an email to apologise for her mistake and said that my set do carry warranty.

but then again, she only offer either waiver on the labour charge of $80 else offer me to buy same laptop @$899 from another vendor.

so in the end they are still not honoring the warranty as they are asking you to buy from another vendor what.

Just to clarify a few facts here:

1) We sold a factory refreshed unit under Laptop Gallerie to this customer which is full authorized by Asus and with full warranty. (We have the authorization letter from Asus).

2) Warranty is void because it is an accidental damage.

Less than 2 weeks, I was bumped on the MRT and hit against the railing. Somehow, it caused my laptop screen to crack as I was holding it in a pouch.

3) Asus have recently outsource their service centre which is newly opened in Capitol building at City Hall. The said staff there is a newly hired staff who does not know all of Asus portfolio of sales and services, resulting in the misunderstanding. An email of apology have been sent to customer a few days later.

4) The issue have already be escalated all the way Taiwan headquarters and it is under review. We suspect that the high price quote is due formula calculation hindsight by using the wrong set of formulas to generate the prices. The review will take 1 -2 months.

5) On our own, we have offered the customer 2 options:
a) Service @ $380 (3rd party repair by us).
b) Trade in the faulty unit and change to another one @ $599.

Currently still waiting for customer's reply for the past 8 days.
:)

basically because I make noise about the high cost of repair and so they offer me to buy a new set from other vendor at $899.

the customer service say this is out of GOODWILL.....

That is the reason why I went back to Asus....

No warranty will be honoured unless it is done by them.....

price outside is less than 20% of what they quoted....

what do you think.....
