My first time opening up this mouse to replace the Omrons, so I am quite intrigued by its parts and components.

However, I do have a few questions:

1. The 'W', is it an initial of a brand? If so, what is it? I am refering to the blue switch which are side buttons.

2. Can I replace the 'W' switch?

3. How to take out the scroll wheel?

4. Is Alps encoder the only brand I am able to replace onto the mouse? If so, is there a need to do soldering?

Somehow these were not detailed in the manuals or websites (those that I know).

On a side note, I am loving the Japanese Omrons more than the default Chinese ones. Might be exploring more types that Omron offers since switches seem pretty cheap.

Check with you, you gotta remove the mouse feet, that 4 pieces of plastic, to access the screws right?

Can the feets be reused? Or gotta use the new set from the box? :o

Yes, screws are underneath the mouse skates/feet.

I reused them. The only downside is that it is a little wrinkly and no longer like what it is before removing them. However, it does not affect performance (for me).

You can use the new feet provided if you do not like what I described. Downside is that you have to buy another set.

You can reuse but with a few conditions.

1. No rough handling such as peeling it extremely fast.

2. Self adhesive did not tear or totally damaged.

3. The mouse feet did not crumple badly. Else the mouse with a cloth mouse pad will render not smooth to glide.

I can answer a few of your questions ts.

1. The W is actually the series of the particular switches.

2. Yes you can replace it with any other omron switches that you desire.

3. The scroll wheel is a little tricky, it goes in one way and out one way. Move slightly to the right should be able to remove the wheel.

4. This im not sure.

Thanks for the reply! :)

I will go fiddle with it once I get more switches.

Really different right? The Chinese ones are kinda "mushy" to me, doesn't have the crisp click.

But I really wonder why Asus can't just solely use Japanese ones instead.
