Hi,

I just bought an Asus AC68U wireless router.
What's the purpose of installing custom firmware such as Merlin or others? As in what's the benefits compared to the standard firmware from Asus?

What's the best recommended firmware for this router?

Thanks.

Read this thread and you will know:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/internet-bandwidth-networking-clinic-4/asus-rt-n56u-5ghz-issue-4499661.html

btw, I am using Padavan firmware with Asus RT-N56U.

Ah I see, so I guess it's better if I try the standard firmware first, then if it's ok maybe I don't really need to install custom firmware.

I wonder if it's the case for AC68U as well, thanks for the info :)

he asking about AC68 u post N56 ?

TS, the popular firmware for AC68 is merlin firmware.

Yup, that's the name of the custom firmware that I often see from other threads. Just that I don't know what's the benefits compared to standard firmware. Thanks!

Benefits? I won't say benefits. MOre like uh. hotfixes incase they break anything in official patches, or other useful functions like network diagnostics related, or heck, using your router to do site survey.
