hi, are there any specific router settings I should change out of the box?

I had a RT-AC68U prior to the 88 and I'm getting terrible wifi reception compared to when I was using the 68.

is your router place at a comfortable place? where its consider fully covered?
have u tried changing your wifi channel to see which is less congested?
next does your environment have a lot of other devices congested the 2,4ghz range?
like mircowave oven running or other device that emits wave that will disrupt your signal?

Out of the box, the settings are already optimised but except the wireless settings.

Try to set a clean channel and appropriate channel bandwidth.

It is right outside my room, however on my iPhone I can see the WiFi bars dip from 3 to 2 occasionally which shouldn't be the case because with the AC68U it never did that, and considering the AC88U should be the better and more powerful router it is very puzzling.

The router is on a 2nd floor so there isn't much appliances to interfere with it.

Did you update the firmware to the latest?
