So i recently purchased a Asus Strix Soar 7.1 as a replacement for my dead onboard sound.

The issue with it is, I cannot install the driver as there is a fatal error which says External power doesn't plug into Xonar Strix card!

My Diagnosis :

Checked the sound card, it is running, lighted up and all.

I have a 750w power supply which is more than enough to handle a new sound card. I have swapped the sound card to different PCI-E slots and it has the same problem, installed the card on 3 separate computers with different motherboard and still had the same issue.

I used the CD-rom version and the drivers downloaded from the website and all had the same error.

It does not show up on my device manager as well, disabling on board sound in my bios doesn't work either

Help :s11:

maybe try installing driver before plugging in the sound card?

I finally got it to work with another computer. Driver installed and all. But its strange as apparently on my other computer with an Asus p8z77v-pro - has 2 pci-e x1 slots, the second slot some how doesnt work, so i had to install on my 1st slot and remove my liquid cooler due to the lack of clearance.

Everything works perfectly (with sound and everything) for 5 minutes before freezing, restart the same thing happened and then the computer wont post after that.

So i removed the sound card and everything was back to normal

So the question is, i have plenty of power to spare, why does my bios and my system only able to detect 1 PCI-e x1 slot and what is causing the freeze?

Specs

Motherboard - Asus p8z77v-pro

Processor - i7-3770

Graphic Card - 1x EVGA GTX 960 SSC

Ram - 2X Cosair Vengeance 4GB DDR3

PSU - Corsair 750W Power Supply

and 1 x Corsair H60 water cooler
