Hi people, I've previously created a thread to compare the Lenovo Air 13 Pro vs XiaoMi Air 13 in anticipation of getting a new notebook for both work and some light entertainment, but unfortunately they weren't and probably won't be available in Singapore anytime soon, and I'm really keen on getting one by the end of next week during the Comex 2016.

As such, based on the ones that 'are' available locally, the only contender with the specs, weight class, and price point left from my research was the Asus UX303 series, which I wasn't originally keen on, but felt was acceptable. This however changed when I popped in to a neighbourhood Harvey Norman and saw the newly released Asus UX310 sporting updated specs that were comparable with the Lenovo & XiaoMi notebooks I had considered getting.

The problem I'd encountered were the specs listed for the UX310 at the outlet, the specs listed in the Asus catalogue booklet, and the specs listed on the Asus website itself.

Asus UX310UQ
Skylake i7 & i5 processor
Win10 Home
Nvidia GT 940MX 2GB DDR3 ram
13.3" LED-backlit QHD & FHD displays
8GB DDR4 ram
1TB sata HDD & SSDs
1.45KG

There are two discrepancies that I was not able to figure out on my own, and am hoping that there are people on the forum that may be able to help me out.

  1. The official website states screen display to be the following, and I am unable to determine whether they are IPS screens.

    13.3" (16:9) LED backlit QHD+ (3200x1800) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 72% NTSC
    13.3" (16:9) LED backlit FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 72% NTSC

  2. The official website states that the UX310UQ comes with 940MX 2GB GDDR5 ram instead of 2GB DDR3 as stated in the catalogue booklet I've gotten. This discrepancy could be due to a typo on either the catalogue booklet or the website, but I am uncertain which is wrong.

I require some help in figuring out the two issues I've mentioned above, as this will help me make a decision on whether to;

purchase the older UX303UQ series sporting older specs and at a lower price point

or

purchase the newer UX310UQ sporting 'supposedly' better specs but at a higher price point.

There is a $400-600 price difference between UX303UQ & UX310UQ models with similar specs that I'm looking at. The updated spec difference are system ram, graphic card ram, and screen display panels. Thank you in advance.

I would get a different brand unless you dont mind buying another laptop once the asus warranty is up

Its its IPS it would be advertised. Their TN 1080p panel on laptops has terrible view angle.

I'd saw it at OneKM's Harvey Norman for $1798. Unfortunately, the specs mentioned at the shop doesn't match up with the specs mentioned on the website for that specific model. Which is why I held off getting it and posted a thread here hoping to get clarification.

Edit: the UX310 isn't available yet. It would appear that my eyes have been playing tricks on me when I popped into the outlet the other day. My apologies.

Don't buy lenovo air pro, build quality is not good, a lot of negative feedback. Xiao mi air is ok, but you even cannot get in China.

Oh?

The Lenovo Air 13 Pro appears to be launched in our region as Lenovo 710s Plus. Based on the some reviews and my hands-on experience of 710s (not the Plus), it felt pretty alright. Can you give more specifics regarding the bad build quality, because that remains my top choice for purchase so far. Any input will be welcomed.

Check jingdong if you can read chinese. A lot of bad comments, like logo missing alphabet, case got big gap...
and don't buy 303 as it's famous for the hinge Issue.

Thanks you. I'm looking at the user reviews and feedback now. I'll probably create a thread dedicated to that soon.

In that case, I'm stuck without many options as to which notebook of a similar weight class and price range to buy this coming Comex 2016. Do you have any other recommendations?

How you could say this ! If you say this, you must have to compare it's price with others as well.

710 plus May be better than Xiao xing pro as it's more expensive. I saw the price from preview, i5 is 1699 and i7 is 2099, but from JD i7 8g 512g ssd is rmb 7499=1500 only.

But isn't the Lenovo 710s Plus the same make and model as the 小新Air13?

  2. http://liliputing.com/2016/08/lenov...e-ideapad-710s-plus-notebook-coming-soon.html

At least two separate online sources seem to have mentioned this, plus the fact that both share almost identical specs - processors, storage, ram configuration, graphic card... it even has the fingerprint ID function as well.

How about Asus UX330 ? Ok to buy ?
yeah how about this?
As far as ultrabooks go, I think the Asus UX303UA series is a pretty decent buy if you aren't hard up for a dedicated graphics card, and want an Asus device. As far as value goes, I personally recommend going for the i5 with FHD display over the i7 with QHD display. The dual cores - i7-6500U is only marginal improvement over the i5-6200U, and a QHD display will likely drain the 57Wh battery faster than the FHD.

13.3" FHD IPS display
Skylake i5 dual core CPUs
Intel HD 520 Graphics
8GB DDR3 (soldered on)
512GB SSD
Win10 Home
1.20KG

But of course, there are other contenders for ultrabooks of this price range (possibly cheaper ones too) and weight class out there too. Do look around before deciding on your purchase.

Nice! thanks for the advice. I'm looking at xps 13 also. But not too sure if its actually worth that kind of money. :/ and i think comex for asus only have the i7 one. :/ :/

Advice needed on Laptop

Hey Guys, bringing up this thread as I'm contemplating the (very difficult and hopefully thorough) decision in choosing a laptop I need.

I've been shortlisting over the past week various models and have downselected to these two (and open to other suggestions as well).

I travel a lot, and the primary use for the laptop will be :

- For work (ranging from spreadsheets, photo editing, web design)
- Personal use which should be heavy web browsing, Youtube, Netflix
- Some casual gaming (DOTA, etc).

I do not want a specced out gaming laptop like an Aftershock/Alienware/AsusROG as I have a decent specced overclocked Gaming Desktop at home for gaming. I'm thinking no harm in having a light discrete GPU in the laptop to allow casual gaming while away from my desktop.

I am very used to my Multi Monitor setup at home (which I may occasionally use for some types of work like video editing in Premiere Pro as well). This leads me to wanting a high resolution laptop, so am not considering anything below QHD resolution - minimum of QHD up to 4k, hence these two choices below.

Asus UX310UQ
- Asus UX310UQ-FB342T = S$1798
7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-7500U Processor 2.7GHz (4M Cache, Up to 3.5GHz)
Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
Discrete Graphics GT 940MX with 2GB DDR3
13.3” LED-backlit Ultra Slim QHD+ 3,200 x 1,800 Display
8GB DDR4 RAM & 1TB SATA HDD + 256GB SSD
1.45kg

and the Lenovo Yoga 910
- Lenovo 910 Yoga = S$2,199
Intel Core i5-7200U Processor ( 2.50GHz 2133MHz 3MB ) [The i7 option is over budget]
Windows 10 Home 64
13.9"UHD IPS Multi-touch 3840x2160
8.0GB PC4-17000 DDR4 2133MHz
512GB SSD PCIe
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 620 (No discrete GPU, this bothers me :( )
Starting at 3.04 lb (1.38 kg)

I'm not the kind to use the touchpad on the laptop, always have a mouse plugged in :) - as I enjoy working fast and can appreciate large amounts of RAM, a snappy SSD to have more than 20-30 tabs open at any time along with multiple apps from Photoshop to Premiere Pro. Like most people I will will have my power plugged 80-100% of the time i'm working so battery life above 5 hours is great.

Questions =

1) Is the Panel on the UX310UQ an IPS or TN Panel ?

2) Will the i7 7500U CPU make a difference in "snappiness" and responsiveness compared to the i5 7200 ?

3) Lenovo Yoga 910 running 3840x2160 has a 78 Wh battery compared to the 48Wh 3200 x 1800 (60% more battery capacity). Will getting more than 6 hours battery life from either be an issue?

4) How is the pixel density and usability of QHD+ @ 13inches or 4K @ 14 inch screen size? I heard things get pretty small at that resolution/screen size. However I will add, I love the clarity of my 27" 1440p monitor at home, as with my 4k TV.

Based on what little I have managed to dig up, it would appear that the generic UX310UQ series uses TN panels. However, the FB342T model with QHD display appears to be using IPS panels according to some of the websites I have visited. Since I did not consider getting a QHD model due to battery power conversion, I did not really look further into it.

You should ask ASUS directly through an email asking for clarification for the specs for this particular model if that is what you have shortlisted it as a contender. Or, you can ask the retail salesperson for their input if you place your trust in them.

I hope this helps, and good luck.
