Hi, intend to get a notebook mainly for suring internet and downloading movie files. Not playing games , so can't afford to pay extra for unneccessarily features.
Not sure which brand to get between Asus and Acer.
Welcome to share your tips and experienced, thanks.
Have a nice weekend.

Asus is good if it doesn't break down. Their after sales service is crap.

I do agree that Acer is usually better value as compared to Asus. In terms of reliability, I think Asus may edge out a little based on experience.

After sales service, I have yet to send anything back to Asus, so I cannot speak for them. Acer's after sales service back then was pretty decent. But as in any big brands, you should not expect a fast turn around when you send it in for servicing.

My Asus ultrabook is probably about 3 years and counting.
Used it quite extensively over these 3 years - gaming, leaving it on over night ad what not.

Still working fine (with the exception of a hdd failure warning - not a big biggie) :)

Would go for another Asus or an Aftershock when this finally kicks the bucket.

I have found Acer to be generally reliable. No issues with the 10 laptops of various types that I have bought. Expect the HDD to die within 2 years if you use it very heavily. It's within specs... alternatively, you could retcon an SSD once you get hold of the laptop. Very worthwhile to do so cos Acer laptops are quite cheap. Build quality has improved greatly.
