Looking for a good Asus wifi router for a 4-rm flat only wifi, not running cables. Use case is Netflix movies in the living room where router would be.. also PC and laptop wifi connectivity from the room about 10m away with room door closed. Currently using Asus RT-AC87U on my 1Gbps broadband, but seems like the laptop video calls will lag sometimes.

Currently the best from Asus is RT-AX86U. But any Asus AX router should be better than the RT-AC87U which is kind of a failed product from Asus.

Depending on budget, you may consider RT-AX58U/82U/86U. If one router is not good enough, you can add RT-AX55 as the mesh node.

Which router has fibre optic port to connect to act as an ONR like the one given by Singtel?

None for all the ISPs except Super Internet (expensive 10Gbps plan where you can use your own 10Gbps router with Optic Fibre port). You have to use the ISP ONT and a router.

ONR is used by Singtel (limited features unless bridged, Singtel 1+1 Gbps plan already got Port 4 bridged, 2Gbps plan can not bridge) , Whizcomms (ONR can be configured as ONT) and Viewquest (ONR can be bridged unless for Viewquest 2Gbps plan, better feature than Singtel ONR). And you have to use the ISP ONR.

One reason is because of Singtel TV. The other reason is to have more control.

Actually Starhub is doing something special on the router side as well for those people who want MediaCorp FTA channels from the Starhub TV+ box. M1 does not need to do anything as it does not offer IPTV.

Thanks. Thats what I'm doing now. Thought I can use my own ONR(if there is 1). Seems like if there is a need to subctto 2gbps, I have to get 1 with ONT instead of bridged ONR...
