Things such as warranty is subjective one every brand service centre sure got some good stories some bad ones. Many years ago I had very experience with those "extended warranty" from one of the chain retailers so now I never take up those extended warranty.

Need to go to Sim Lim for 4 times for same issue and is totally done by 3rd party small shop.

Is not PC Dreams don't worries haha

Hi does anyone have any idea if this particular model will be launched in Singapore? It's been a while since we have a 15" Zenbook and the featured fastest speed SSD is very tempting.

Thanks

The UX501 is now available in Singapore, so I rushed down to Funan to buy. I was just about to hand over my card to pay for the machine and a 4 GB upgrade (to 12GB) and 512 GB SSD when I discovered that the Singapore spec DOES NOT HAVE TOUCHSCREEN nor any option for one...

Seems in every other country option for touchscreen is there or is standard.

Damn.... I am so upset.... no other 15" with 4K touchscreen that I know of.

I am left asking why or who in Asus would make such a decision not to include a touchscreen on their most recent flagship model....:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The only reason I ask about the Asus UX501 is because it has 4 channel PCI SSD, which is faster than the SATA based SSD in the 13" Zenbooks. But so far from what I see challenger is offering i7 4720HQ, 8GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, GTX960M with 2 years warranty at $2198, which is quite expensive since it doesn't come with SSD at all.

I haven't seen an SSD model yet and I am curious about the pricing. An rMBP 13" has 4 channel PCI SSD for under 2k, since I don't need such high power CPU and GFX I can live with it. To me the essense of the UX501 is the PCI SSD so it would be a shame to leave it with just 1TB of HDD.

any of the asus resellers will replace the 1TB and put in the SSD for you. But you have to pay the full cost of the SSD and you have to keep the 1 TB which you can use as an external HD. Sux, but that's the best deal you can get.

However I refer to the sata SSD's ....afraid no idea about cost or installation of the PCI x 4 SSD....

can you install this in addition to the 1 Tb standard hdd they supply ?

Wahh I dunno leh but 13" Zenbooks can add half height mSATA SSD but those tend to be slower than SATA SSD so this one 15" should be fine. Adding of mSATA SSD probably need to find PC Dreams liao since not many retailers are keen to open up a new laptop and take responsibility should something happen. The risk involved is not worth the small profit.

LOL actually not Challenger, I never go there unless I have to. I got same story from 2 dealers in Funan, notebook.com and mc.2 as well as on phone from supposed official reseller in SLS.

Still no touch screen wah....

btw both these dealers tell me max RAM can supply is 12 GB and can replace 1TB with SSD but there is no 128 SSD in there say jus space for one SSD .... hmmm

Check the chaeging power adapter voltage current etc if not come to SG need to buy an SG charger. Also shipping fees etc add liao then see if worth it or not. I personally don't dare to buy laptops from overseas.

The UX501 internals are almost if not exactly, identical to the G501.

SG version only allows max 12GB ram(4GB OB, max 1 pc 8GB), 1 x 2.5" slot for hdd and 1 m.2 SATA slot.

At least, that is the set that PCD has. If you see the specs of the G501 and UX501, it looks almost identical, except for the lack of m2 ssd and smaller ram.

I'm not sure what they were thinking building 2 almost identical models except one with black red ROG chassis and one silver chassis. :s22:

Heck even the way the box inside is arranged the same!

Take note, that only 512gb ssd is the PCIE, 128 & 256gb are, just SATA lll. Also the 4k model weighs much heavier 2.3kg iirc. Finally quad core broadwell is here. Now I'm eager to see macbook pro 15" update.

Asus trying to make a macbook pro killer, but they instantly failed by copying the design, sub par full aluminum design, not quality. For one, the keyboard color is totally off the design, and ASUS trackpad is just so bad to use, unless it's somewhat same as Dell new xps 13. :s13:

ASUS ZENBOOK Pro UX501JW-DS71T Intel i7 2.6GHz 16GB Memory 512GB SSD GTX 960M 2GB 15.6-inch 4K UHD Laptop
◾15.6-inch 10-point touchscreen IPS 4K UHD display
◾Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GTX 960M
◾ZENBOOK aluminum uni-body design
◾512GB PCIe x4 SSD and Thunderbolt connectivity
◾Premium sound design with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower

Price:

$1,799.00

Above is from Asus store in USA.

I realise its more expensive of course, but not much (USD 1799 = SGD 2375 today) , and I struggle to see why Asus Singapore dun give us this option. I'm assuming they manufacture these in Taiwan. Tell me more expensive to ship Taiwan to Singapore than Taiwan to USA ? :(

Look at how much better it is.... 16 GB RAM vs 12 GB max, Touchscreen, 512GB PCIex4 SSD and Thunderbolt...:s31:
