Recently bought this laptop, needed a lightweight laptop for travel etc.

Can't find the official thread here so I'm creating one.

Like with the other reviews, can confirm that the following are the bads for this device.

- Camera - I'm still laughing at the quality. VGA? C'mon ASUS!
- Keyboard - not so nice to type with
- Fan always running - not sure if maybe because my updates are running background, but even if there's no other windows open (or any application at all), you can hear the fan running constantly.
- No touch screen - not a minus, just that surprised that SG variant is non-touch version. Lack of research on my part. Lol
- Screen text are too small to read if set 100%. If set to 125%, you will notice the text are not that sharp.
- Charger. I'm expecting the charger to be handy, but surprised it still have the extended cable for outlet.

Expectation (other countries have this I think):

Reality (SG variant):

But so far so good. For the price, specs and performance, think this is still a good buy (yup, I'm convincing myself. Must. Ignore. Buyer's. Remorse). :s13:

Personally prefer the 2nd one. Separate plug means it will sit flush under those carpet power compartment hole thingy. Also, the strain relief tends to be alot more fragile in the first one.

Yup, the 2nd one is ideal for home use. Problem is I bought this laptop for portability. :(

When I researched it, I saw it uses the 1st one. Didn't expect that it's different also per region.

Those supports Type C charging are expensive. :s13:

I find it the opposite, the 2nd one is ideal for outdoor use. Seminar undertables with awkward spacing, libraries, public places where power is on the floor and space is shared. If someone else accidentally steps on it or someone's leg crossed over the cable, the 1st one is vastly more prone to damage

I also recently bought the ux331un. I quite like it though, feels good. No complaints about the build and quality. The webcam really sucks though. I don't really mind the fan as long as it is keeping things cool. Ahahaha.

I was actually deciding whether to go for this or lenovo 530s which is faster. But went ahead with asus. Trying to convince myself that I made a good buy. Haha

This is a Windows text scaling limitation and has got absolutely nothing to do with Asus.

Want to complain at least complain with some brains.

Lol. Triggered bro?

I'm just reporting the issues I faced on initial use. My old Acer laptop (15") don't have this issue. Same W10 version.

OS limitation or not, I'm just stating the issues/negatives you will face if you buy this laptop.

So chill guru.

Just bought i7 version at $1148 at PC Dreams at Sim Lim Square, after trading in my 2 year old Lenovo i5.

Price for Asus UX331 (i7) at PC Dreams- $1398.
and trade in of Lenovo i5 -$250

PC Dreams sales representative is better than Asus Customer Service team.

My encounter today- Went to PC Dreams, after chatting with PC Dreams respresentative via Carousell.
After inspecting my Lenovo i5 he said I have keep my laptop in good condition but screen and keyboard dirty, therefore he offer trade in price of $250. If my laptop is in perfect condition, trade in price -$300
He then took out Asus UX331 (I7) and checked whether it worked or not.
Yes , it worked.
When he found out that first Asus UX331 unit surface dirty and asked his assistant to bring out another one and check everything till he was satisfied that all was prefect and well before selling it to me at $1148

I was satisfied with win-win deal as I had killed two birds with one stone.
I just went to spectacles shop and paid deposit of $200.
I can never achieve this if I went to Challenger or Havery Norman, Asus brand shop,etc..because I have to pay more $1898 for i7 or $1698 for i5

Why buy i7 ? because i7 had better resale value. 2 or 3 years later, i5 will be obsolete.

$1398 is price with trade in condition or their selling price?
2 years old i5 $250 quite low leh.

My Asus is 7.5 years i5 Gen1 with crack lid but upgrade to 120 intel SSD I sold for $200 in Carousell.
Supposed to agree at $220 but buyer bargain in the spot and I just sold it.

15.6" is much bigger thus 100% scaling is fine. The issues u said not only applies to this laptop, but all 13.3" Windows laptops.

I agree with the issues but its not a big problem given at this price range. Keyboard takes getting used to, ill just say its mediocre because there is very little key travel compared to other laptops

Na, not in this case. i5 and i7 actually perform the same because it has a power limit of 15W. Although I definitely agree with you that i7 will have much better resale values just because of the name,as well as the extra 8GB RAM. Also your price is so much more worth it.. I got the i5 version at 1510 since I bought this about 5 months back when it was new...

Overall I dont regret buying this. The lightness of the laptop is 100% worth the other cons. Combined with MX150, its a great laptop for light gaming

- Absolutely agree
- If you think the i5 will be obsolete, so will your i7. Because believe it or not, your i5 = i7

So actually, the "premium" you paid cancels itself out. Because the extra you paid at the start that you fetch back if you resell is no different (if not more wasteful) than saving the $100++ if you had just gone for the i5 in the first place

Common lah, when I sell on Carousell, buyer say dirty keyboard, want to take $200 off the offer price. Say unhygience. Told him change 1 keyboard maximum is $40-$60, but he insist to take $200 off. Gave him a bad rating and sell to another buyer eventually.

Lin_joel,
$1398 is their selling price..

Ark-law, thank for your advice and explanation..
I understood what you mean..
Same as Starbuck coffee tactics.

You know Starbuck Reserve cafe?
They sold African coffee drink for $7.
Then sometimes later, same old African coffee drink was sold as Daily Brew Coffee at $3.80 in all Starbucks cafe.

TS, if you want Zenbook with touchscreen, check Asus Zenbook website, They provide nice info. Some people said Asus provide poor customer service, that's because customer service are fed up with customer who never do research before buying computer..
