Asustor AS-202TE

Hi,

I will need some advise on the setup of my Asustor AS-202TE NAS as I am a newbie on NAS. I just got the NAS and plug it onto the Singtel Fibre Aztech router is I believe is a gigabit port (yellow). My laptop running Win8 is also plug onto the router. Both cables are Cat 5E. When I tried copying 20 Gbytes of data from my laptop to the NAS shared folder, I am getting around 1.3MB/s as reported by Windows. The speed doesn't seem right. Can any experts advise me on any settings which I may be missing that can boost the data transfer speed? Thanks!

Check your laptop is using gigabit ethernet? Fast ethernet is only 100mbps.

I had resolved the issue. Problem is with my Cat5e cable which I use to connect my laptop to the router. Think is faulty. Windows is displaying 10Mbps. I replaced it with a Cat6 cable and it is now showing 1Gbps. Is able to write at around 50-60Mb\sec to the NAS after changing. Thanks!

Is write speed of 50-60Mb\sec acceptable or it can be better? My NAS is also connected via a Cat5e Cable. Does changing it to Cat6 improve anything?

According to this chart u should be getting 70mb/s as the synology ds214play can reach 100mbs read and write. Both using the same cpu.
IMHO, If you are not using intel lan adapter u will get slower speeds for sure. Invest in intel lan adapter and you will not regret it.
