Once i was inside DBS. I notice there's a bag deposit box. I saw ppl slot $ into the sealer bag and deposit into it. Mayb that's safer for business

Something new to me. But so inconvenient to go into a branch.

Anyway, I still trust the deposit machine more than the story. If there is truly an error, it is very easy to trace.

I used to stuff cash into the machine without counting cos i often go $ changer and i see the machine working so accurately that i blindly trusted the bank's ATM too. But now after reading these stories i better be more careful

You mean you are not aware how much you are depositing?

I will always check and count my notes before depositing. Best you do in front of the camera.

Ya. I used to stuff whatever I have without counting. I will be more careful from now on. I got a wake up call after reading this story

Just deposit 100 at one time slowly if u scared

Once I saw a guy deposit 50 note one time each slowly , up to 2k lol, everyone waiting behind him.. Maybe he or someone he knows experienced this eating before

I think it'll b safer to deposit at atm in front of a branch during operating hours. Anything wrong can hop in to pull the staff out to help

Something similar happened to me as well. I just emptied out what was left of my angbaos this year into the POSB ATM, and it just ate my money and showed an error message with a phone number to call on the screen.

I went into the branch to complain, and they told me to call the number, while they marked the machine as faulty. They made a deposit to my account the next day. I really have no clue if the ATM ate any of my money since I didn't count. I count my cash before depositing now.

Nice share! Can't imagine if is middle of the night. Will be so time consuming to put it right

For the case of this story, here are some key points:

• Father is an essential work. Gets paid in $10k in cash.
• Father must have acknowledged correct amount, thus receipt printed the same amount.

The logs will be able to capture this easily.

Machine accepted $10k and depositor acknowledged $10k but receipt and account reflected a lower amount.

I think the moment the father goes accept the lowered amount. It's gone case already. Receipt is black and white. Even though the writer said the Father experienced this a couple of times and usually will auto credit back so he just go ahead. But that is a very risky thing to do

This kept me wonder about the machine at money changer. I often wonder will it show $10k but in actual fact only $9500 in the stack? Usually i don't count at money changer. I just trust what i see on the machine counter

If the father really deposited more, why acknowledge?

If acknowledge correct amount but if machine was faulty to recognize a lower amount, then physical balance will not tally. Bank can investigate.

Another red flag in the story. The father is so damn lucky?!

He had met occasions before where the ATM “undercounted” by a few hundred and he had gotten the money transferred back eventually, so at first he wasn’t too concerned and felt that a big company like DBS/POSB could be trusted.

At the money changer, you should count first before handing over the money.

When the machine is counting, you can witness the counting process. So how is it possible for the money to go missing unless the guy at the counter is doing some black magic?

Yup. I know the exact amount i hand over at $ changer. It's the amount i collected back i don't count cos i trust the little counter machine to do its job properly. But now knowing ATM machine could go wrong, i guess it is better to count at money changer too. Though i scared to invite robbers

I always count before leaving the counter. I only trust my own counting

It is convenient to make a report at branch of atm if it happens.
I believe the machines are outsourced to CISCO not by bank staff like old days where bank staff have to replensih the ATM outside their branch. So bank staff may not have the key to it now.

After reading this now i know ATM machine so cunning will eat people money. FYI, the amount usually ~$400 with various amount $10/$50.

Usually i encounter machine not accepting $ even though the $ looks alright to me. So i often thought the machine is very clever. 没想到..

I didn't encounter before actually, so will take note of this. Only been encountering is notes that are fine but they keep rejecting, cannot accept. Very sian ji bua.

Usually rejected ones are corner bend a bit. I need to straighten the crease.

Sometimes i try again cannot, I'll go try another machine and it went through

Can't be those guards pocket uncle's $ ba. Im sure got CCTV. Perhaps posb should just show the CCTV to that uncle to proof that the machine is accurate
