ATM machine ate $???

2 years ago, l remembered at Rochor MRT, was withdrawing 600 at OCBC ATM to bring to MBS. Money didn't come out. Panicked. Checked internet banking, amount deducted. Called OCBC hotline, told me they will update me in 3 days once they checked the machine. I worried what if...
Still proceed to MBS with only 500 capital, in the end lost all.

Sounds like an unlucky day at the casino. But a lucky day at the ATM ( I'm assuming you got your money back from the bank , at least ).
The ATM saved you from losing another $600 that day.

This kind of thing difficult to dispute.

If the father really deposited more, why acknowledge?

If acknowledge correct amount but if machine was faulty to recognize a lower amount, then physical balance will not tally. Bank can investigate.

Another red flag in the story. The father is so damn lucky?!

He had met occasions before where the ATM “undercounted” by a few hundred and he had gotten the money transferred back eventually, so at first he wasn’t too concerned and felt that a big company like DBS/POSB could be trusted.

Father better not go out when there's lightning .
His luck so "good".
