Wah James, I officially ship u as the HWZ prophet man, you were right. Went down E1 again tday earlier to retry all the IM series including IM04. It really doesn't float my boat at all, and I seem to have some minor fit issues with the IM04 in that I have to keep re-adjusting to keep the housing in, during my 30 minutes audition. The sound sig also wasn't really to my exact preferences, like what you said I really preferred IM02/03 and CK100PRO kind of signature.

However, the IM04 has alot of visceral impact/rumble in terms of its bass quantity and weight, and soundstage properties wise they are considered the widest and have quite a 'huge-sounding' spatial feel out of the whole IM series line-up. I can definitely understand and see why some people like them. I find them pretty enjoyable for most orchestra/instrumental soundtracks, tried out some of my Taro Hakase classicals and Han Zimmer's Man of Steel OST with them and find them a pretty good listening experience. But in terms of vocal genres, I think I still prefer the IM02/03 greatly over the IM04.
:o

Yep. Same experience here. 02/03 r excellent for vocals (esp females vocals as many have claimed). And no overwhelming BASS, that's what I like most.

And and the clarity of the sound ... its .... :D

Fix/re-cable es7

I have a es7 with no sound coming out of the right side recently.

Went down to audio technica service centre at 1 ubi view but was told that the technician is hospitalized and they dont know when he will be back.

Any advice on the alternative places to fix my headphones?

Thanks!

After spending some time auditioning a few brands/models of IEM, i've finally decided and landed on this, to me is really no horse run..
Based on what i've tested, only 2 models stand out for me and that was Westone 4R and IM-03.... both had the wow feeling after i listen...
settled for IM-03 as 4R is OOS and also 4R is more expensive.
I tested IM-04 as well but dont quite like it.

I listened to my wife's IM03 off her Studio V and my own DX100.
Sounded excellent off both, though it sounds more musical on the Studio V.
Off the DX100, it sounded crystal clear with good pace.

Hi shifus, a novice listener here! Hoping for some advice. I'm thinking of getting an amp or even new DAP to drive my CK100Pro (and ESW9) to the next level. My main player in the past year plus is my iPod Touch 5.

Was loitering around Orchard waiting for the wife last week and casually walked into Stereo and tried out the iCan Nano and it really made the CK100Pro sing. My ears have never heard such depth and clarity from them. The trouble with the iCan though is the need for adapter+LOD to run with my iPod.

Been googling around the past week and it appears that the Astell and Kern AK10 is the only DAC/amp that connects directly to the stupid lightning output. But at over sgd 300, it's not too far from the AK100 (mk1), which is apparently just sgd500 in Japan! I could sell my gorgeous but rarely used ESW9 to fund the difference.

So would like to ask if anyone has used the CK100Pro with the AK10 or AK100 (or even AK120, out of curiosity) and how well that worked?

I am a headfi novice also. With the recommendations of some of the shifus here, I bought the Ck100Pro to use with my AK100 and I am very pleased with the sound. It matches the AK100 very well and I've no regrets. Go ahead to try the Ak100 and I am sure you will like it.

ATH-M50

Has anyone tried the ATH-M50 headphones? I heard its super good, checked out the reviews and seems to have very good reviews also. I am considering to buy it for studio use. Anyone can give their opinions about it if tried before? Thanks.

The thread above is a discussion of the new remastered m series so it might pay to wait abit longer to get an improved version of the m50s. :)

Thanks Annapurna for the tip. I went down to E1 today and spent a few hours auditioning the AK10, 100 mk2 and 120.

Funny story, I was already set on the AK100 mk2 when a young chap came in, listened to the Fiio X3 & X5, then the AK DAPs for just a few minutes and promptly took the AK100 mk2. Stunned, I asked Albert (is he THE "uncle" or does that distinction belong to David?) if that was the last set and he apologetically said yes. After listening to the awesome sound of the AKs for hours there was no way I was going to return empty handed, and in desperation I took the demo set, which was in great condition anyway. Comes with a nice Buttero case too. My ears are happy.

I guess the next step would be upgrading my earphones... Perhaps later this year... :S

I just bought my ATH-M50 2 weeks ago. Really love the sound it produce. I wouldn't say it's super good but I would say its good for its price. I tried the Shure 440 and don't really like it. Built quality I would say M50 wins 440 too.

1 thing to take not is M50 need some time to get used to the clamping force. My head is big, so I can feel the force quite strong clamping my head. First few nights I follow what some bros in head-fi mention is I used the M50 box and put the M50 around it the whole night to stretch it a bit. It does help loosen the clamping force a bit. While leaving it over night I also attached it to my X3 and let it play overnight to so called burn in.

After like 3-4 nights of doing the same thing, the sound of the M50 improved by a quite a bit compared to right out of the box. Now I can enjoy my M50 using my X3 without any EQ and still sound good.

(Above is my personal experience with my first better quality headphone. Sound quality is very subjective. I'm just sharing my experience.)

BTW if you don't need the M50 urgently, maybe you should wait for the improved version M50x. The cable is finally detachable and heard that Audio Techica improved the paddingas well. If I'm not wrong it comes with 3 different cables - 1 long straight(featured on M50S), 1 long coiled(featured on M50) and 1 short straight for better portability. Spec wise is the same if I'm not wrong. The new pouch has the Audio Technica brand printed on it whereas mine doesn't. Go amazon do a search, there's a pre-order going on for the M50x.
