Auto back light behavior

My ip5 backlight is set to auto and it is always adjusting it to 80% even when I am in a dim or dark place. Only started happening only recently!

Something to do with the sensor. Is your screen protect clear or those finger print proof type?

Software is latest right, 6.1.4. Am using the anti finger print screen protector.
