Auto Restart

Hi all, I am experiencing 'random' auto restarts with my com and I need some help.

Description of my problem:
1. 95% of the time my computer blacks out when I play dota2 (i don't play any other games currently, no background program except avira antivirus free version)
2. reboots with normal one 'beep' sound
3. there is no display on the display when it restarts and i assume it does not boot into windows as i do not hear the windows boot music. (my user is not password protected)
4. after pressing power button to turn off manually and power it up again. the problem will not occur 90% of the time. meaning after one restart i can play dota2 smoothly (i usually go watch game to make my com restart then i start to play)
5. of the 10% rare chance that it reboot twice, the computer will not restart anymore when i play dota2. (weird huh)

Reproducibility:
1. the problem will only resurface when i power off the main socket for quite awhile like the next day when i play dota2 again.

Random occurance:
once in a while my com will even restart when i'm surfing the web on google chrome but as mentioned above once this happens the computer will become stable and i am able to play dota2 without any restarts.

What i have done when i search online for similar problem (but did not solve the problem):
1. setting the performance setting in nvidia control panel to maximum performance
2. disable on board graphic card in BIOS and setting PCIEx16 as the graphic card to boot first. restart occurs and i get 1 long 2 short beep indicating video card error.
3. swapping the PCIE connector to the other connector (my PSU has 2x 6pin PCIE connector)

What i could have done but unable to do so:
1. swap with another higher wattage PSU
2. swap a graphic card
3. use my on board graphic (i dun have a VGA cable :o)
4. buy a new computer (just kidding)

anyone has any solution or similar problem?

Processor: i5-3470
MB: Gigabyte H77M-D3H
Graphic Card: MSI GTX550Ti / OC
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600MHz Kit (CL9)
Hard Disk: Western Digital Black 1TB
PSU: Seasonic S12II Bronze 620W
Windows: Windows 7 Professional 64Bit
No overclocking was done on my computer. All stock clock.

anyone has any idea?

sounds like gfx card problem to me.
cheapest solution seems to be to get a vga cable and run onboard gfx card.
then you can test if the problem still persist, then it could be PSU.

ok so today i got a call from corbell and i was told that they had run a comprehensive test on both my graphic card and power supply. no error or fault detected nor restart occurred during their tests.

well **** does happen when u want them to error but it does not happen. if i happen to find what is the cause i will be back.

done that already but dota2 lags like mad due to the fps ,didnt restart.
the thing is, i need to pull out my graphics card for the on board graphic to work. so it still doesnt tell me is power supply or graphics card.

Clean your ram gold finger.

my ram is sparkling clean. i would like to take a photo to show you how clean my computer is but my phone is under repair now. so i got no camera lol.

If your casing is large enough, try putting in your GPU in the second PCI-E X16 slot and see if you get any restarts. If you do not get any restarts, the first PCI-E X16 slot is likely to have a problem and you should RMA your motherboard.

not really solved for ts in this old thread but some suggestns to try, Weird problem: first boot always crashes, hard reset fixes it - Homebuilt - Systems

check if ur board has latest bios
manually enter ram timings
increase ram voltage tinnny bit

yes my bios is the latest. updated using gigabyte @bios software.
i dun think is my ram is having problems cauz i ran the ram test software for 17hrs as posted a few post away.

i tried setting my dota2 graphic settings all to max and now im getting more frequent reboot. sometimes twice in a row. still trying out....

till date i still do not have a solution to this. however i read from another recent thread that someone has the same problem and it was the PSU that was faulty.

i already have mine replaced under warranty after going down to the service centre multiple times and they change it out of goodwill for me.

here is what i copied from my event log

i got the following critical error:

Under general tab:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

After much testing and trial. I have confirmed that there is not enough power supplied by the power supply.
The restart is triggered by the high load on the graphics card fan. This was confirmed using msi afterburner software and adjusting the fan rpm relating to the temperature.
I did an upgrade to GTX750Ti which uses much less power than GTX550Ti and the problem was solved.
