Are majority of auto cars slower than manual cars? i ran a search on google but it doesnt give me much information. What are the mechanics behind it? Why manual is faster?

This kind of topic nv ending de. Haha. Manual can rev till u like for changing gear. Auto also can like paddle shift etc. not all manual car are faster than auto. U also need to compare depends base on hp and gear to weight ratio and each of the gear ratio of the both auto and manual car.

A picanto manual and a evo x auto. Still evo win. Hope u get the idea :)

cos auto isn't as smart as the human brain

if u think ur brain is lousier at making gear change decisions, then ya, auto will be faster than u

Seach "drivetrain power loss" and knock yourself out on the WOTs.

It's not so much the manual is "faster" or the auto is "slower". It's about which 1 is losing more power from the same engine.

in current day technology, unless u can shift gear in maybe 1/8 of a second.

then u should take manual, if not just take auto

Nowadays modern AT cars shift faster than MT.
MT is more for the drive feel, and easily directly shift to any gear you want for torque etc.

But MT can engine stall loh. Just like yesterday when I exiting Serangoon Gardens Country Club basement carpark. 1 hump at the end of the slope..... :(

Guess beside the tranmission plays a part.
Lot goto depend on the driver cum his/her skill in any form of 'race' you may even consider.

Hhmmm no flaming intended but believe it better to compare apple with apple.

A bro here mentioned compare picanto VS evo??
Hhmm by theory I find if a picanto drive dare to jio a evo maybe...eerrrrrrreerrrrr no comment haaa

So, a manual Picanto vs an auto Picanto, which is faster off the line? And a manual Evo vs an auto Evo, which is faster off the line? Using the same driver as a constant in this comparison. :D

In a car which has similar engine but different transmission, let's say a Corolla Axio auto and manual, the manual will be faster

This is because the auto gearbox is heavier than manual gearbox, and due to the nature of the auto gearbox, there is more power loss in its mechanisms compared to a manual. Hence less power actually reaches the wheels compared to a manual

This comparison is only valid for normal run of the mill automatic gearbox that most cars have nowadays, not those new DCT and whatever
